if you don't mind second hand you can get one very very cheaply on craigslist or your local usedeverywhere.com board you have no "gurentee" but you can very very very cheaply that way (maybe even luck out to get one free!)

Does Public Works run a store that sells donated appliances or other goods that are still working but just castoffs from other homes?
Appliance stores might have scratch and dents.
Any friends with second fridges at home that you know might be replaced soon?
Charity shops that take large appliances. See if any Salvation Army stores have units for sale.

Habitat for Humanity restore-their program only accepts Energy Star appliances 5 years old or newer-might worth following up.

Worth a try-since hydro utilities have been promoting the fridge roundup, call your utility and see if they have some collected fridges that have not been scrapped yet. Maybe...that could work out.

You can get a brand new 18 Cu. Ft fridge for less than $ 400 thesedays ..a second hand fridge might not be worth it ..as you won't really save much on it

agree with the new fridge ain't that much more expensive. I tired to search for a legit refurbished/used appliance store for you on google, and this one is in GTA:

about $250 for the used fridge

Yup & most of these fridges are genrally around 10 yrs old ..so most likely to break down in near future ..also they are not energy efficient so will use up lot of electricity ..the energy savings alone will be worth it if you go for a new fridge for around $ 400 ..instead of a used one for around $ 250 ...you will probably recoup the difference in just a couple of years in terms of lower Hydro bills
