is it only me thinking the overages thing is not correct? because many coupons state that no cash value or cash value is 1/100cent or the coupon applied to specified products only, other use is fraud.
If the stores give out the overages to the customers, this means that the stores are helping the customers to cash out the coupons or use the coupons value to other brands/products which not the specified products.
I was thinking that too, but the company is reimbursed for the full coupon value. So shouldn't you be reimbursed for the full value?
Then it's not right for the stores to adjust the coupon (ie the item is $4 and you have a $5 Coupon) and then they send in the coupon for the full amount. JMHO :)

I've had stores adjust my price but not adjust their own coupon price which I think is not only unfair to us customers but wrong. Essentially they are making money off of our coupons if the manufacturer reimburses them for the whole coupon value. So wouldn't you agree that its better for us customers to get the overage then for the store too?
I have been told before it would be fraudulent on the stores part to accept a coupon that exceeds the value of the product because of this reason. Mind you it this came from the retailer and not the manufacturer. I really do wonder what the manufacturers take is on this whole issue?
I completely agree we should be given the overage. At first I thought it was wrong when I started reading the bragging section and people were going to walmart and getting all the overages on the P&G coupons, everyweek. But I took a good look as to why that upset me and honestly I have to admit to everyone it was because I just started couponing and I was jealous they were getting such wonderful deals and overages. I haven't been couponing long enough to have gotten the P&G coupons yet but boy I just can't wait. I started couponing because I had to and I just love it, being on this site with all you wonderful people that really care and help each other is like nothing I have ever experienced before in my life, and I'm 41 with 4 kids in high school and college. being disabled and stuck at home alot, couponing has filled a void and has brightened my days, just can't wait when I wake up in the morning to check out everying thats going on here.
Sorry so long, I now feel that yes we should receive the overage not the store.
If you go to Wal-mart they will give you the full amt, I always buy other items so that I don't have a credit balance.
Depends on the coupon. Some of them specify that they cannot be redeemed for cash (L'Oreal, for example). I don't know that Walmart could give an overage for this coupon (though they're low value coupons, so I don't see it being an issue in that situation). As long as they're being applied to the correct product, I don't think it's a big deal.
I don't know....I just try to keep in the frame of mind that I am a consumer and I'm just there to make a purchase. I use a coupon to purchase things. What they decide to do with the money or the coupon after that is up to them and of no real concern to me. If I get an overage, great...if not, that is great too. Adjust it, lower it, give overage on it, dance with it on your head...I don't care...as long as I'm getting a great deal on the product!
The Canada Revenue Agency website says that coupons are to be treated like cash. -- Therefor it's my thinking that overages should go the consumer. I don't think that there is any laws about overages. I think that with Walmart's legal teams, they would have picked up on that already.
