Thank you I'm just starting out (today). This will help.
Thank you for a great post :) I have just started with coupons.
This week I started with making a list of sale items from the flyers (the ones I might buy), by store, with the price per. Then I wrote in another column just the item, in another colour. Now I can go through my coupons and SC posts, see what's the best deal.
Another thought about quantities of items - in my family we do 'stockings' at Christmas rather than gifts (more goodies that way haha). Small items and foodie stuff are great for stockings. Maybe even coupons would be a nice thing, depending on the person <g> Gift cards anyway...
Something I learned yesterday, hope this is not a repeat: carry your own scissors in case you need to cut out a coupon from a product to get the discount at the cash desk. Happened when I was buying the Natrel milk at Freshco. Since I'm new to this, didn't know if it could be scanned or had to be cut out. Had to be cut out, and the cashier's scissors weren't great. Probably cashiers won't always have scissors, so it's good to carry my own.
im a newbie too, and am wondering whats everyones tips for getting 5-10 of the same coupon?
the website limit, and sometimes i could use more than one of that particular coupon.
What do you suggest?
Well, myself personally, I asked my family and friends who I know would never in a million years use coupons if I could have some mailed to their houses.
I would then make a hotmail account with my first name and their last name (that way they know the envies are for me) and sign up for the different sites using those seperate emails. I get four sets of coupons this way and that is more than enough for me. I always order every coupon, even if it isn't something I will use so that I can trade with someone else.
There are people who make a lot of fake accounts with fake addresses and then type in their own address when they go to pick their coupons. If you get caught doing this you'll be banned so I would advise against it!
For yourself, you'll probably be needing coupons for formula and diapers and there are lots of SCers who don't have kids but order those coupons so they can trade. So you just need to make up a list of coupons you have to trade and coupons you'd like in return and post it in the trade section.
I prefer doing the Coupon Trains however, mostly the VWT (Virtual Wishlist Train) usually have between 5-15 riders and each rider sends the conductor two coupons for each person from their wishlist. It's a great way to get the coupons you really, really need and also gets your trade rating up fast. A lot of the older SCers will regularly run Newbie Trains and that is a great way to start your trading!
Thanks so much for this thread. I found myself saying "wicked" a few times while reading!!
My mother-in-law once told me to have 2 of every product you use in your house on NEw Years Day and you won't run out all year. And I found it's true! This year I'll be much less for them!!
yes yes yes to all of the above im new too and really enjoying this little hobby and saving money ,, thanks
Hi there,I was an timid person for I first started in June and stop, seemed to be very over whelming and always had an hassle with print out coupons, but in October I started up ,I still do not print out coupons ,but no longer timid, the time was 940 p.m store closed at 11 ,and the manager had to come over talking about how the store will be closing soon and this will take awhile I looked at her, repeat the time and how long till closing and my coupons which were little, lol will take under 5 minutes not even!!! she this looked at me and said sorry I said me to for coming here ,then she gave me a free bag of Aeros chocolate, lolgo figure
Another great tip I picked up from SCers is - hold on to your FPCs until one of the grocery stores holds a 'no tax' day.
That way no only do you not pay for the product - but you don't pay any tax either!
Hi Carly,
First...hugs & best wishes w/this SDM nightmare. I've been following along on the thread.
Secondly, I came across this worz site the other day & played around with it for a bit. Are you still using it?? Did you find any other similar type sites & if so do you still feel worz is one of the easier/better/etc. ones?
I've been inputting all my coupons into excel in the various sorting groups (laundry/dairy/etc.). I only just started this couponing business so for the most part when looking through sales flyers I pretty much know if I have a cpn to go w/a sale item but when I'm not sure I do a 'find' search on my coupon sheet to see if I do.
Do you do something like this as well or ONLY record them in Worz....I'm wondering about doubling the work load or whether to keep doing what I'm doing or switch
Would love to hear your insight on this.
Thanks!
Tx for all your advice & info. Def. comes in handy for a newbie! I've been at this a month now & am still learning all the in's n out's, & my way around this site. :)
