i went to sobeys lastnight with the $1 off mccain deep & delicious cake coupon.
the girl refused it, saying they don't take internet coupons.
i asked how long had they not been taking them because i have used internet coupons there in the past.
she told me they haven't taken them for a year and other cashiers are making a mistake by taking them.
i paid full price and got my coupon back.
so i went home and emailed sobeys asking for their coupon policy.
i got a response saying internet coupons can be accepted, providing they meet certain criteria.
the mccain coupon met all of that criteria.
so i called the store today and spoke with the manager.
he repeated what i got in the email about the criteria.
he couldn't remember each point, so i told him all of them.
i also told him that my coupon met all criteria.
he said he will look into it, and get back to me.
i'm not sure what he needs to look into though.
i told him the cashier's name.
i have my receipt and my coupon.
if/when he gets back to me, should i tell him i want my dollar?
i feel a little silly doing all this over a dollar, but for me, it's the principle of it.
what would you do?This thread is currently associated with: Cake Beauty, SobeysLast edited by anawhatsme; Thu, Jul 14th, 2011 at 11:07 AM.

I have never been rejected an internet coupon, but have only gone to Forest Hills one. I'm a superstore kinda gal. I would definitely go back with a copy of the policy, speak with the manger for future purposes and kindly tell him/her you would appreciate a do over of your transcation with the coupon. Can't hurt.

I had that happen at Sobeys and just went to another cashier and it was fine but shouldn;t have had to.
Janne - i liked superstore too but there is one cashier in sackville who tells you right out in front of everyone that websaver coupons are fake, i printed them off, i'm cheap etc and she does it every time and the manager everytime says he will deal with it. So now i'm a sobeys girl.

You may feel silly about doing this over a dollar but it all adds up in the end.
What I would do is next time you go in (hopefully sooner than later) to pick up some groceries take your receipt, coupon, and the policy and go to customer service first and explain what happened and that you had talked to the manager and would like to be reimbursed for your coupon. I've gone back into the store before when they have missed putting a coupon through and gotten my money even though it was only a $1.
Don't feel intimidated or silly about it all. Remember you are the one saving money and the ones who mock or make you feel silly are throwing theirs away....so who in the end is really being silly??? lol

I was talking to my Mom about cashier's attitude today. Often I am told 'It is only so much $' as if $ (or any part thereof) isn't worth anything. I was raised with 'a penny saved, is a penny earned' kind of mind, and is how I try to live still today. I guess the cashiers make so much money that a few dollars just don't make much of a difference!
I am off to WM today, and will probably have to do battle with the cashier over 'one coupon per purchase' thing. If I am purchasing 5 bottles of tylenol, how many coupons can I use...5 right?! At least this time I have the policy with me...
I think you did the right thing OP, and asked for clarification.

I would have complained like you did and then brought the product back for a refund before repurchasing it with the coupon.

I avoid the Panavista store if I can help it, nothing to do with coupons as I've only been couponing awhile. I've generally found attitudes in that store to be way below average customer service (although there are some good employees there) and I really don't like the quality of stuff in their produce section compared to other stores.
I've used internet printable coupons at Forest Hills Sobeys several times. I stopped and asked at customer service about internet coupons and they said they take them all as long as they had a barcode that could be scanned. Never had a problem there...knock on wood.
