I was curious if anyone here collects Militaria? If so, what kind? How long have you collected it? Do you have any pictures to share? I come from a Military family both blood and inlaws and have found it quite sad when I would see someones war medal for sale to the general public, to me it's just a shame. These men and women have sacrificed so much for our country and their medals of honour are just floating around and most people couldn't care.
Well yesterday was my dive into Militaria collection (when finances allow) and I intend to leave them in will to the canadian war museum where they can either showcase them for generations to come or at least know where to distribute them where they can be preserved for years to come.
So I made my first purchase yesterday and it was a WWI War Medal of a Canadian Sapper and today I found out that a friend of mine in Ottawa often works copying Military records and can copy the entire Military records of the man whose name is on this medal if I just provide her with his name and registration #. How cool is that? This medal has a story behind it and I am going to be able to find out exactly what that story is. It was issued in 1919 for the 1914-1918 war and I'm just in awe when looking at it knowing that some brave man fought for this country to warrant recieving this medal almost 100 years ago. This thread is currently associated with: N/ALast edited by TaraF; Fri, Jul 15th, 2011 at 10:46 AM.

the only ones I have is of my uncles that when his plane went down he got a purple heart and bronze cross for bravery...
I was wondering if anything like do you like to collect old jackets or something like that...I used to love to go to the stores and buy army camoflauge pants, and jackets...and other stuff like that...Live, Love, Laugh

That's such a wonderful memory to be able to keep with you of our Uncle. I haven't collected anything like jackets and the like but that's because I'd have no place to really store it or display it so it would literally be packed away in a box in the basement
Things like the full medals and even the small jacket medals are the direction I'm going in.
