So I was in Safeway this evening and noticed a "Buy More, Save More" deal for Kelloggs Muslix. They were 2.50 each WUB4. Since I had 2 x $2 off any Kelloggs coupons with me, I decided that 4 boxes of Muslix for 6.00 was not bad at all!
Anyways, the cashier rings my cereal in and after scanning my club card they total 10.00 as expected. She then takes off the coupons and suddenly the total is 8.98????!!
After some discussion and it became clear to her that 10.00 - 4.00 in coupons does not equal 8.98, so she went through the receipt and then informed me that because I had used coupons I was not eligible for the "Buy More, Save More" deal?
I've never had a problem combining a manufacturer's coupon with a store sale or loyalty card deal before. Has anyone run into this? I just wanted to let everyone know, as had I been purchasing a large number of items I likely wouldn't have noticed the till automatically reversed the club card discount that had already been applied after my coupons were entered! So strange! Will be watching this very carefully in the future.

Hmm, that is weird. I bought 3 bottles of Mr. Clean the other day (sale was $1.99 each WUB 3 or more), used my save $1 WUB 2 Mr. Clean products. Cashier rang in coupon after the products, I gave my Club Card at the end of the transaction and the discounts were correct. Maybe the Club Card needs to be scanned at the end (after all coupons) rather than before coupons?

I usually give them my card after my coupons too. Because the same thing happened to me once, I gave her my card and then my coupons and somehow the till wasn't adding up right. So from now on I do coupons first and then safeway card.

Thanks. That's good to know and I will keep in mind to do my club card after coupons in the future. I really felt like the Cashier should have just called someone to do an override as it seemed like something was just screwy with the till. I ended up with two purchases being charged at the WUB4 price of 2.50 and two being charged at the normal sale price of 3.99 which made no sense what so ever. Anyways I shot off an email to Safeway asking what the deal is with this, so we'll see if I get a response.

She did. The total went way down, then jumped back up after the coupons were entered.
Anyways, I emailed Safeway and they got back to me with this:
"We wish to inform you that according to our Coupon policy: Cash discount coupons applied to the total purchase cannot be combined with any other discount offer."
So according to the policy we can't combine coupons with club card discounts? Guess I won't be shopping at Safeway anymore!

I am still miffed with this, it must be a computer glitch. I was at Safeway again yesterday and this time I bought 4 Dr.Oetker Pizzas (buy 4 or more for $3.99 each) and used 2 coupons (save $1.50 WUB 2 pizzas). Cashier rang them all through, grabbed my Club Card outta my hand to scan it, THEN she put through my coupons. My Club Discounts and coupons discounts were all there...I still prefer to have my Club Card scanned at the end because I like watching the total go down
, its my thrill of the day, lol.

They have to do it that way because if its bogo or something, that doesnt take effect till card is swiped, and you wouldnt be able to use a coupon on the free one

that makes sense, since you wouldn't normally receive a discount on something you're not paying for. Still, you definitely have to be paying close attention when the cashiers are ringing through your order. Mistakes happen.

Okay, that makes sense but I still don't understand why that was the main point of their response when it wasn't the situation that I described to them. Mistakes seem to happen a lot at Safeway, to me anyways. I usually give my club card up front there because I've found sometimes the club card discounts don't come off, and I wouldn't notice it at the end - but I would notice it if I'm watching the till as things go through. I find this happens a lot with stuff that has been marked down for clearance after a holiday.
