-

I have been trying to help my daughter with her grammar homework and I can't figure out a few words, her assignment was to underline the words with the short o sound, the ones we're stumped on are stop, frog, pond, one, and out can anyone tell me if these are short or long o sounds.
The ones she thinks she's sure of are ; foggy, octopus, ox, mop, pot, cot, top, hop, log, mom, and popped. Hopefully one of you will be able to help, I don't ever remember learning this in school and have no idea how to help her . Thank You!This thread is currently associated with: N/A

My recollection: long "o" sounds are in words like "stone", "horse", etc. Short "o" sounds are like the words you've already mentioned, which make "frog", "stop", "pond" shoo-ins. "One" and "out" are neither, I think.
That's my $0.02 (Cdn).73% of all statistics are made up, including this one.

Thank you so much for your help, I felt like an idiot posting this but I really needed to figure it out somehow. My daughter will be very thankful as well.
