Thread: Saved 50% on perishables

I knew i could do this but life makes it hard to get out to shop early in the day. Today DH and I headed to Atlantic Super Store at 8:45 To Search for pink stickers. They mark down parishables first thing in the morning. So we got cold meats (cus no cooking is happening with this heat) Brie cheese, Bagettes, Yogert and a bunch of meat (to freeze) paid only $30.15 for it all. The key is to only buy things that you will eat that day or can freeze and make sure you dont show up too early for them to have time to mark things down. Today, we are eating well dispite the heat and have a weeks worth of meat.

Great idea! I didn't know that they did that!?!
Do they do it everyday, or are there certain days that they reduce the prices with the awesome pink sticker?

I alway get my meat at 30 to 50% off. I wrap and freeze it right away. Have been doing that for over 20 years and have never ever had a problem. We do go to Costco once in a while, but not to often anymore, only when I need more K-cups for the coffeemaker.
We all need a little sunshine every now and then

I do the same thing, but for those looking to do it in Winnipeg, avoid the Safeway at Polo Park. Have photo proof (took it with hubby's Iphone) that makes it pretty clear they are doing something dodgy with date labels
It's one thing to put it on clearance to sell it and make some money for something going bad, but date tampering could make someone very sick

Do they mark it down every morning? What would be a good time...hour... to go?

Yes, they do it every morning. But during the week I cant go. The Other tip is to go about an hour before close the day before a holiday closing. They mark everything down that would have to be sold before the next open date. I love the bakery and the veggies on those days cus I usually have to go somewhere and bring something on holidays.
If you ask at your favorate store in the meat department, they will usually tell you the time frame and policy they have for marking down for quick sale.

I am too paranoid to buy meat and produce that has been marked down, but I should probably start. I don't eat a lot of processed food which can make it tough to save money.

I do it all the time, just check carefully that it looks ok, there is some clearance stuff that clearly should be off the shelves IMO and I wouldnt buy it but I see others taking it

I love RCSS for this, Milk, soy milk, yogurts, bread & meats. Hubby eats yogurt by the tub and has a huge bowl of cereal before bed everynight... lol. Breads are great frozen same with meats. Yesterday I got 4 packs of soyummi puddings, they were pink stickered (reg. $5.59 each for three puddings) and after coupons I got them for $2.00 each. They are actually good to freeze and take out a few hours before you plan on eating them
Also got 2 2L of Silk (after coupon and pink sticker, $1.50each) and so good coffee creamer (after coupon & pink sticker $.40!!). These are things that I absolutely love finding pink stickers on, because they aren't cheap and I hate the fact that I usually spend SO much the soy products
Plus they go very very fast in this household.
