stock pile/storage/shelving -what are u using

Hi everyone!
So I have mini stock piles (throughout my house).
DH and I have deceided to finish our basement b4 baby #2 comes in October.
Anyway I'm hoping some folks can give me idea's on what they are using for their stock piles... racking or build in shelving or cabients?

Our contractor was suggesting "laudry type" style cabients.. approx cost $2100 plus There is no way I will spend $2100 for shelving... esp when I'm forking out some $$ to get the basment finsihed and have baby #2 on the way.

Also, how much space put aside for their stockpiles... since my piles are in different area of my house.. I can't get a good measurement of how much space I need. Part of my wish list is that I have a sperate area of the basement for my stockpile .. so I want good shelving and a good amt of space for the stock piles.

Ideas?

Wow, expensive!!
Cheap solution: Bookcases.
Head to WM, check out which ones they have. Most you should spend would be $100 on a bookshelf, and that can handle a nice size stockpile. And then you can add more as need be.
Oh, and the bathroom stuff, I stockpile on umm..well, basically, a bookshelf! lol (It was actually what I was using as a dresser, since I fold ALL my clothes, I hate hanging, I just took off the doors.)

I got a ha;f decent sturdy plastic shelf from walmart a while back. i would get more if i ever needed to expand.

Ikea has some unfinished pine (?) shelving that you can configure how you like. sometimes they have their wacky wednesday deals on shelves and cabinets (if you don't mind waiting it out)

$2100 is a money grab unless he's using high end oak or cherry and having shelving mitred to slide fit the shelves along with brads made of gold... you get my point lol

totally! we all know how many times we've seen laundry components on sale at home depot and canadian tire

in fact it was either home depot/rona/lowes i think that had cabinets for $100 bucks a piece. someone correct me if i am wrong, but i think i remember seeing tall cabinets w/doors in the flyer

I bought a full pantry cupboard with doors on sale at Zellers just last year for something like $64 I think.

There are always sales for storage cupboards, just watch the ads for them.

Two bookshelves - one from a garage sale and one for free, a metal shelf my dad got for free, 2 shelving units stacked together that were $5 together, a corner shelf we've had forever and a big old pantry that was here when we moved in 18 years ago.

Check kijiji, lots of people sell or give away old shelves.

Thanks for the idea's.. I'm going to keep my eyes out for bookcases and/or shevling from IKEA/cdn tire/zellers (etc) or get DH to put a few 2x4 up and a plank of wood up.

I told the contractor he was crazy spending $2100 on regular cabients and there will be no way I would spend that kind of $$$ on shelving.

If you are redoing your basement anyway, Ikea is the way to go. My basement was already refinished except for all the storage rooms so we did a combo of Ikea cabinets that were left over from our kitchen re-do and pieces we picked up from the Habitat for Humanity Re-store. It isn't pretty and all matchy but it works!

I have the plastic shelf from walmart in a bigger size 5 shelves grey much bigger then posted and have np with it, also have an older bookshlef kids are not using anymore. As jody said may not all match but it gets things stored!
