I heard from a pharmacist that works there that the lease won't be renewed and the store will close in october,2010. Rumor has it that Superstore is going in there.

It's a small space for a Superstore, even if the furniture store were to vacate as well. And there's only about half as much parking as a typical Superstore. A few years ago, there were rumours of a Superstore going in at 101St/104Ave, and the casino moving west and expanding. Could be Superstore is still interested in moving into the city. I'd like having a Superstore nearby, but I'd miss that SOF .

My Mom was told that it was going to be an LRT station

Kingsway Save-On is some distance from any of the planned LRT extensions in the area. The likely route out west will go from the new downtown Grant MacEwan station along 104 Ave. - Stony Plain Road. The northwest line is projected to go from NAIT to the centre of the airport land, north to Castle Downs, and west to St. Albert Trail.
There will be an LRT station on Kingsway Ave. between 104 St and 106 St. on the Downtown - NAIT line.

The new Superstore off Whitemud and 17th street is smaller and I prefer it. It is much better designed than the usual stores. I read that Superstore is evaluating what size of store suits where they are going. They have substantially decreased the non food area in that store.
They do have a lot of parking which is never full.

Has anyone been? I wonder if they will be having amazing sales/clearance like the Loblaws craziness in Montreal?

I stopped in today. Things are starting to get sparse in there! If I recall correctly, they had 50% off all hair accessories, $0.99 nail polish, 30% off cards & gift wrap, 30% off hardware, and all their kitchen utensils were on sale. I didn't see any super great deals... but I guess that depends on what you're looking for. It will probably be worthwhile to pop in and check it out over the remaining couple of weeks.

I went over the weekend and I think the best deals were in the books. I got nice books on the Canadian Rockies with lots of beautiful pictures for $1.99 each. They'll be perfect to mail to my fiancee's family for Christmas (he's Argentinean and it should be a nice way to share some of Canada with the inlaws). There were plenty of other books on sale, especially cheap paperback novels.

Final week. Was there the other night, so sad seeing the bare shelves. Talked to one staff who had been with them for years. She's retiring but still she's sad to see it go.
No great deals for me, just some frozen short ribs marked down.
