Looking for some advices on cable/internet/phone plan:
Goal: reduce monthly cost while keeping everything the same. If I can get extras that would be ideal
Current plans:
Shaw - home phone/internet/cable bundle $160/mth
details: digital classic TV + 7 pack (extra channels) & high speed internet
I do make long distance calls to US maybe 1 every 2-3 mths for about 30 mins to 1 hr which I have to pay per minute.
Rogers - $90/mth shared couple plan except for data
shared plan includes:
- 150 Shared Weekday Minutes
- unlimited Eve/Wknd mins (starts at 9pm)
- Unlimited Canada-wide
- between 2 cell phones calling: 2500 Call Forwarding Mins, conference calling, call waiting
- NO voice mail
cell #1 has 150MB Data
cell #2 has 6GB Data
100 Bonus Minutes
100 Sent & Unltd Rcvd Text Msg - ends Jun 01/14
6pm Early Eve & Wknd Calling - ends Jun 01/14
So I called Shaw today and was hoping to at least reduce my home phone to $15 because that's what Rogers is currently offer. Currently home phone is $24.95 included in the Shaw bundle. The lady said they can but it means re-bundling my package and basically it will cost me $6 more per month and I lose out on the extra channels. Uh how the heck does that work? Well, apparently I have some services that were grandfathered in the Shaw bundle. *sighs*
I'm thinking I should call Rogers and see what they can do for me.
Any other ideas? TIA

I just spoke to the Shaw loyalty dept the other day and they told me I had the grandfathered rate too( never mind my rate had gone up last month). Apparently they were giving me $10 a month off for the last 3 years from when I last called them which had just expired! Never the less I persisted and said is that the best you can do for me or do I need to call your competition. She went off the line for a minute and offered me $10 a month off for 6 months so it was better than nothing. It took about 30 minutes what with being on hold for customer service, then for the loyalty dept but I will save $60 for 30 minutes of my time which is like earning $120 per hour for time on the phone so I think in the end it was worth it. It was hard to get her to budge off her script of how I was getting a better deal than their new customer rate but I kept repeating to her "do you have anything better to offer?"

Hey lizzie what option did you choose when you call Shaw? Or do they have a number for the loyalty or retention department? Yeah the person I got was quite firm that she's unable to do anything for me.

I finally decided to make my first call to our cable company last Monday. There are only two providers in my area for cable/internet. For the past few years I was paying 160. a month for basic cable and high speed. I decided it was just too much and was willing to let it go (the cable). I called and they reduced my bill from 160 after taxes to 115 after taxes! They also gave me my channels in HD as a bonus. I am so glad I made the call. Thanks so much to the posters on this board.

Purdee-I had to first speak to the customer service dept and then they put me through to the loyalty dept-so start there again and then ask to be put through. Of course I too was told they would say the same thing as customer service but I did get some money off. Just be very persistent and keep asking "is that your best offer" before I call the competition.

Bumping. I'm with Shaw and have phone, cable and internet with them. I used to get a$20 discount for the bundle but I noticed in the new year they took that away and are only giving $10 discount for the phone. Happen to anyone else? Is just all getting way too expensive.

Yeah, same thing just happened to us last month. We got the discount last year. Then, last month, we got our bill, it went from 115 to 176. It was never that high. Apparently they are charging us full price plus the price of the HD channels they threw in last year. We called and said we didn't want them. We are seriously looking for alternatives until they come out with the basic 25$ pack. I am told that where I live in NS, I cannot get any OTA channels. It is definetely getting too expensive.

Just finished a lengthy call and we got
fiber optic cable tv for the same price as satellite, unlimited time, no contract
higher internet speed and higher monthly usage for no extra charge, unlimited time, no contract
reduced home phone cost, 2 year period, no contract
free PVR
free installation (on the weekend)
Just received the internet confirmation too
It was a call transferred to the Loyalty Department, from the regular customer service department.
