coupon expiry dates?

I have several coupons that I don't understand the expiry date for. What comes first the month or the day? For example when would 1/10/12 expire? January 10th, or October 1st? It seems that most coupons are written month/day/year, but is that the case for all of them? I thought that month/day/year was the american way of writing it, but I keep finding Canadian coupons written this way.

I actually had a Zest coupon from last weeks Smart Source rejected this weekend because it expired in August. LOL. The expiry date was 10/08/11 and the teller refused to belive it was month/day/year. Next time I'll be bringing along another coupon with the same format, but the day past 12.

actually I have the Zest coupons and that is what I am referring to! I just got these coupons recently, so I know that they aren't expired, but if I was a cashier I would think that they were. So how can I use these coupons if they look expired but aren't?

day/month/year is the European way.

MM/DD/YYYY as far as I know. I wish that all coupons were written out the long way with the month name.

Unless its a European company, I would guess MM/DD/YY

Funny I almost got my Zest ones rejected too but said I was sure it was MM/DD/YY so she accepted it.

I would call Zest and complain that you were not able to use your coupon. See what they say.

thanks for the answers everyone! The only problem is that even if we know it's month/day/year, that doesn't mean the cashiers know that! They really should write the month out using the actual word.

Most write it out or are the last day of the month so its rare its an issue too, which is probably why cashiers don't know
