Eric,
I boost my return with a few tricks, some of which you'd already know.
Obviously load up on non-perishables that I use regularly, on sale, hopefully with coupons and a whack load of AirMiles.
No coupons but the Sunsilk this week is a no-brainer for me. Don't know I've ever seen it on for $1.99 anywhere else. Even if you could get it for $1.50 elsewhere you're still essentially getting around $0.40 a bottle in free cash equivalent.
12 bottles over someone selling for $1.50 is still $5.60 in free cash over normal expenditures.
Do that a lot of times through the year and you pay for a lot of things.
Normally, I shun credit cards that charge fees however I buy one that costs $50 but get:
1AM for every $10 spent at a sponsor
1AM for every $15 spent elsewhere
I use very little cash and figure with my spending habits the $50 cost is covered by the increased AMs within about 2 months. That means increased return.
I put as much as possible on this card but pay it off completely every month.
Also do things like:
Bought $300 worth of last summer's Best Western gift card offer. That got 300 AMs. I put the charge on the credit card for 30 more. My wife and I have a small home business and we travel to events that we can write. We need a hotel anyway. (I also phone Holiday Inn first for a price which I'll quote the BW rep. if they quote higher when I book).
I probably pick up around a 1,000AMs from charitable donations as well.
Yes Bob, I kind of figured you didn't get all those airmiles at Safeway. I pretty much just do Safeway to get the majority of my miles. I was thinking about American Express but I don't need any more credit cards, I have BMO airmiles MC and hardly ever use it. I don't stay in hotels etc so I don't get miles there either. But yes I do stock up on airmiles shops at Safeway to what I can afford as well.
I can see how you get your miles with just about every opportunity. I guess its what works for you is the thing to do. :-)
Yup, but I only buy if there's a price advantage.
I'll buy Shell gas for the AMs but if I'm near Costco or RCSS I'll buy there instead as it can be 7 cents a liter cheaper than here.
Picked up 3 Listerine today at 3.99 each... decent deal even without the AM, if you ask me. The bottles had coupons on the neck to save $4.00 off a Reach total care toothbrush, which just happened to be on sale for 3.99! So $11.94 + tax for 3 1L Listerine, 3 toothbrushes and 40 AM.
I did consider getting 6 to get the 100 AM but I couldn't justify bringing even more Listerine into the house!
Good buy Meems!

Well Frugal :icon_santa:Christmas:icon_santa: is coming and if you like Crown Royal, you will need a mixer:lolsign: 2 parts Crown Royal, 1 part Listerine.
Why thats 75 proof
Good deal on the Airmiles and the goods.
LOL 6 bottles??? I use maybe one and just for the occaisional disinfectant. I HATE that stuff.
I did get 195 bonus airmiles this week on Yogurt, Cereal, Batteries and Natural Select Chicken (good deal with the $2 off coupons I had)... I have teenagers to feed.
I use it as a disinfectant for toothbrushes which some believe cause the common cold but I have about 6 bottles now.
I go through a glass a week though (but no! Eric, I'm not drinking it!) ;-)
P.1 Updated
Beef Jerky & Sensodyne might be your best bet this week.
Due to business commitments I'll probably not be able to post the next 2 weeks. Feel free to do your own calculations.
You won't be able to change page 1 but could post messages.
I just subtract $0.14 x No. of AirMiles/Item
So if something is $3.99 and it's B5G50AMs then each item gets 10 AMs (50/5)
$0.14 x 10 = $1.40
So each item has $1.40 worth of AMs
$3.99 - $1.40 = $2.59
It's easy once you start doing it.
I'm willing to take the plunge and do the calculations for the next couple of weeks if you're not around, Bob - I do them at home anyways! :) This thread has turned me into a Safeway Airmiles junkie.....
Bob, I will miss your posts! I don\t post often but really appreciate the time you take and comments you make about getting the airmiles.
Poppleton its nice of you to offer to step into Bobs huge shoes for the next few weeks. Just wanted everyont to know the e-mail has Olay on for 50% off and I know there are lots of coupons around for Olay, could make it good value
