Just in buying a GC.
Teller didn't cue in the PLU so went to CS.
They can't do phantom refund-resales on GCs so had to go in the book.
CS Rep asked if I wanted the phone-call? Seems they have a spot in the book where you can check for the Safeway AirMiles department will call you to let you know they've credited you.
Of course I said yes and I suggest anytime any of us need to be in the book that this service is requested.

What do we have for this week Bob? I see cereal again but I think I am good this week around unless the cereal boxes have a coupon on the. I like the buy 5 get 100 better than buy 5 get 60? I think it is this week. I need to get chicken nuggets though as we are out. So I will buy 2 boxes of those and get the AM's

Had to drive my wife to work this morning so I'm just working on it now.
In the meantime here my post on another thread. Hope you will all partake:
The revaluation from an average of $0.14/AM to $0.11?AM amounts to a 27% increase in the amount needed to redeem. It was a knee jerk reaction after all the complaints when AirMiles raised the redemption rate on a few cards by over 50%. One was the CARA GC which I'd guess was the most popular. As a result they just raised them all by 27%.
Repeated queries as to how they can justify a 27% increase on a GC that has not increased in value ($50 is still $50) have been met with silence.
You're far better off complaining directly to the Associate companies who are part of the program and point out to them the reduction in the AirMiles exchange rate will mean you'll have to reconsider shopping with them as any price advantage from the AirMiles has been eroded. A good example of this is Safeway, who many consider overpriced. Safeway is the largest supplier of AirMiles to shoppers. I have pointed out to Safeway that in effect AirMiles just reduced their competitiveness by 27%. At first Safeway thought I should be complaining to AirMiles but when I pointed out the many thousands of people following this BLOG will be reconsidering shopping at Safeway they took notice. I suggest you all contact Safeway and express your opinions.

Finally, someone above mentioned the Zellers card.
I've pointed out often over the years that converting HBC/Z to AMs costs you 50% of your purchasing power.
It takes 80,000 HBC/Z points to buy a $10 HBC/Z card
It used to take 160,000 converted HBC/Z points to buy that same $10 HBC/Z card at AirMiles.
A terrible offer that just got 27% worse!

Hi OB...it's being advertised all over the place--is it worth it--also get 25% AM discount on trips apparently when you have it--figured I'd ask the Master for his learned opinion

1,000 AMs = $110
So the card at $99 is almost break even and you pay $99 each year after that.
I opted for the AMEX Platinum instead.
$49 or $59???
1AM/$15
and
1 AM/$10 at sponsors.
I figure it pays for itself every year.
Now, if you take a lot of flights then perhaps the Master Card has an advantage but what's in the small print Grasshopper.
