Got next weeks flyer Spend $100 G100 coupon, not the greatest airmiles deals on products. Nothing that I really need.

Made a second trip tonight and picked up 6 more Cheerios, and 4 Nature Valley granola bars. With the spend $40 coupon, ended up getting 202 airmiles on a $41 spend.

Anyone know if we can use the spend $40 coupon more than once per day?

I took a break from chasing air miles for a few months. Have ~14k air miles and finding it harder and harder to get a good reward flight deal.
Went to Safeway last night and loaded up on raisin bran cereal though. Spent $66.36 and got 353 air miles back. I used to value air miles at $0.20 per am for reward flight but $0.15 per am is probably more accurate so 353 x $0.15 per am = $52.95. May drop a few boxes off at the food bank. Cheers.

Ya I hear ya. they jacked up the amount of airmiles for base flights saying the taxes would be reduced and I see no evidence of that.
They also changed the 25% BMO discount to just Canada and the US.
Your lucky if you can find a flight or even one at the base miles requirement. Otherwise it's basically the overpriced flights....

Well the numbers are out and it looks like Sobeys is kind of accepting blame that they ruined Safeway

The company behind the Sobeys grocery chain has written down the value of its western business, primarily the Safeway chain, resulting in aloss of $1.36 billion in its latest quarter.
Empire says the loss was largely due to a recognition that the long-term value of the Safeway business is lower than previously estimated.
Sobeys paid $5.8 billion to acquire the Canadian assets of Safeway in 2013, creating a significantly bigger presence in a part of Canada where the Nova Scotia-based company had a relatively small presence compared with other regions.
Excluding the Safeway writedown and certain other items, Empire Co. (TSX:EMP.A) would have had $82.5 million of adjusted earnings in its fiscal third quarter — down 36.1 per cent from $118.6 million.

The net loss amounted to $5.03 per share, which included a $1.59 billion writedown of goodwill associated with the Safeway purchase.
Fiscal difficulties surrounding Safeway intensified

After adjustments, Empire earned 30 cents per share in the 13 weeks ended Jan. 30.
A year earlier, Empire's fiscal third-quarter had $123.6 million of net income or 45 cents per share and $118.6 million of adjusted earnings, or 43 cents per share.

Revenue was up $86.7 million over the 13 weeks ended Jan. 30 to $6.03 billion from $5.94 billion in last year's third quarter, mainly because of food inflation and the acquisition of Co-op Atlantic.
"The challenges that we experienced in the first half of fiscal 2016 related to the integration of our Safeway business only intensified in the third quarter," Empire president and CEO Marc Poulin said in a statement.
Western business sales dropped

He said its Safeway banner and the West business unit saw sales eroded in a difficult economic environment, mainly in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Poulin also told analysts in a conference call that a new management team for the western business unit will be in place by the end of the company's fiscal year in April.
Among other things, Sobeys has had difficulty winning acceptance for its private-label products among Safeway customers.
Consumer response to a pricing and promotion campaign initiated at the end of January was initially disappointing, according to chief financial officer Francois Vimard, but Poulin added that the company expects the benefits to build over time.

7 trips to Safeway total this week, for approximately 1400 airmiles. That puts me back on track for my 500 airmiles per month to maintain onyx (puts me at 2000 ytd) I now have a lot of cereal and granola bars I figure approximately 24 boxes of cheerios, and 64 boxes of granola bars.

The offers next week are so sad! I doubt I will even set foot into Safeway except maybe a bagel run.

2 swimmers, oldest is competing at the Canadian Olympic Trials next month. He eats around 5000 calories some days. It will get eaten faster than I want to fathom. They will have a breakfast at 4:30 AM before practice, breakfast after, lunch, pre practice snack, after practice dinner, sometimes a second dinner, and then several bed time snacks. Topped up with more snacks as needed in class, on bus, in car, whenever they can.

Airmiles provided tickets for him, plus my husband and I, from Alberta to Toronto. Plus will fly him and his sister to another meet in Vancouver in May. Wouldn't redeem for a meet in Cleveland this month because the redeem ratio sucked. The ratio for Toronto was around 18c per mile (I usually don't redeem under 20c, but this is going to be a very expensive month). Redemption rate for Vancouver is closer to 27c per mile. (both of these included the Onyx Air Canada 20% discount)
