Spent $300 today and forgot to use 1 of my 5x the AM coupons. Drat.
Held up the line for 20 minutes because the cashier couldn't figure out how to put my 4 x $2.50 off Europe's Best Fruit coupon through.
At least I got the frozen bonus x 2 and the cheese bonus

For future reference:
Just got a call from my Travel Agent.
Says Marlin is now supposed to add $50 to trips where people are exchanging gift certificates. In other words $400 in certificates is really only worth $350.
Still, he was upfront and honest about it and said he'd eat the cost even though it means he ends up losing money as his commission is only $35 and I had bought on the info he'd given me. Says he'll take it out of their advertising budget. However, it does mean he'll get future business out of me when I'm not exchanging certificates.
Marlin will get a nasty letter though from me over the $50.
Just means I'll continue to exchange AMs for gift cards (hotels, cars) when vacationing as they're treated as cash.

You're not alone, Alberta Girl! I spent $275 but had to go back because the cashier ended up putting through $10.75 of my coupons as groceries instead of minusing them off my bill!
Got the $10.75 back only to get home and realize I was charged for 4 x 4L milks when I had only bought 3! wahhhhhhhhh. This is happening quite a bit at my Safeway lately. And I would be watching cashier scan; however, they never have enough staff to even load your buggy for you -- I have to do it myself! What is this? Real Canadian Superstore??
Actually, they DO have enough staff. They hire these mid 40s to 50s men who I guess are supposed to "help you with your groceries to your car" and other tasks...such as loading groceries into your buggy...but they always just are walking around doing NOTHING! Makes me really ANGRY!!
I feel like telling them to apply part of their wage to my bill for me doing their job.

Note: If you were planning on buying toilet paper buy before Jan. 3 as the current Purex offer is far superior to the new offer.
Just a few thoughts:
1. Safeway had (and I stress had) a reputation for being over-priced. That is in the past and you'll often find Safeway more than competitive especially when you include the average value of AirMiles offered on heavily discounted manufacturers weekly specials. In fact over the last few weeks it was possible to get more in value in AirMiles than it cost to buy the product.
2. The average value of an AirMiles to the consumer is approximately $0.14. Using an average value helps one determine a comparative value to the same product in other stores. The most popular method of valuing AirMiles I find is to take a product and determine how much it cost to buy an AirMile with it.
This could lead to two products: A costing $0.20 and Airmile and B costing $2.00 an Airmile.
To my mind valuing AMs this way just encourages people to buy as much a product A rather than B. People could end up buying for the sake of getting AirMiles rather than products they use at good prices or can donate to charity cost effectively. But how do you know if A is a good deal.
Jan. 3 - 9 :
Tuesday is Customer Appreciation Day. Spend $35 and get 10% off.
In the following first number is sale price. Second number is effective value based on $0.14/AM). If there is a multiple offer, ie, B3G15 & B6G45 a third number corresponds to the value of the extra offer.
With effective valuing you can compare the relative prices of a product after accounting for the AirMiles against the same product in another store. For example,
If Coca-Cola is $2.00 with 10 Airmiles it has an effective value of $0.60 [$2 - (10 x $0.14)]. If another store is selling the same product for $1 you know the effect of the AirMiles beats that price.
Print off a copy of the following to take comparison shopping.
SS = Safeway Select
Saf = Safeway
Sig =Signature
Sch = Schneider's
GMS = Gourmet Meat Shop
OO = O Organics
ER = Eating Right
ML = Maple Leaf
BC = Betty Crocker
NPG = No Price Given

Let me know if I've missed anything.
Also, if you do use your AMs for flights instead of products in all likelihood you can set the effective prices lower. However, it is always a good thing to cross reference with an Airlines website prices to make sure. Don't forget you pay the taxes extra.
Finally, to all of you who have thanked me for this thread, thank you back as well.
