Well my 2 brand new (ish) baby finches felt confident enough to fly out of the nest the other day. One has all white feathers coming in and the other one dark. They look funny but soon they will look just as pretty as the other ones when their beaks get a nice orange colour.
The photo of the pretty white one with the orange beak at the bottom of the pictures is from the last batch of 2 that were " born on the sly "
I never even knew they had hatched until they were maybe 2 weeks old. I thought it was just ripped up paper in the nest till I saw it move! This thread is currently associated with: N/A

So cute - so where do they go now that they are out of the nest? I thought they were house birds.... (sorry, know nothing about birds!)

Natalka, when I said they were out of the nest, I meant the little nest inside the cage that they were born in. ( little wicker basket). These finches were bred in the cage ( believe me, they keep laying eggs all the time! )
Once they come out of the egg, they stay in that little wicker nest for a couple of weeks or more, then one day they stand on the edge and attempt to fly, mostly they land on the bottom of the cage, and practice getting up onto the perches. For a few more weeks they sit on the perches just like the rest of the grown finches, but they screech for food like crazy and bend their little heads upside down right near a full grown finch, as if to say " FEED ME STUPID! " lol
We also have 2 budgies in another cage, those 2 are noisy as all heck!
The finches that are born I just keep them all!! I feel happy now that I have 2 all white ones again, as my 2 all white females both died a short time ago ( one was an original finch that I had over 2 years ago, and we think the other one born maybe 1 yr ago was her daughter, but what the heck do we know??)
I know nothing about finches except I love the silly " squeak toy " sounds that they make.
Thanks for all your lovely comments everyone!!

Awww! I love them they are so adorable, I used to have a Budgie - we got him when I was 2 and he lived until I was 14. He was awesome, but I can remember telling him to shush when a good song came on and all I could hear was him LOL (ironically his name was peegee, reminds me of Brandsamplers now haha)

So some new births have happened in the last couple of days!!
I just knew with seeing at least 7 eggs in that one nest something was about to crack! I count 3 new baby finches in one nest,( I think) but I hate poking or prodding, I just sort of lean in and peek! Plus they all squish together, hard to tell where a head starts and a tail ends!
It will be a while before I know what colour their feathers will be, or when they get brave enough to jump from the nest.
Stay tuned!
