What the heck are "Candies"??

im sorry if this seems like a silly question, but im still pretty new to smartcanucks and have yet to discover what the heck candies are/how you earn them/and what you use them for? can someone please explain this to me? would be much appreciated!

ok.. so i found the "candyland" area.. and where you can donate your candies... but is there like a rewards catalogue type thing to see what you can buy with your candies somewhere that im missing?
