Hi everyone, I really enjoy reading everyone's brags and looking at pics, so I thought since so many people are taking the time to post and share, I should as well, just to be fair, instead of always just looking and taking advantage of the tips you guys so generously share.
This was my No Frills trip today
I thought I did well. Pic to follow once I figure out how to post it. Never done that before.
Ziplock bags 8x $1 - 4x $2 WUB2 (couponzone) = Free
Barilla Penne 1x $1 = $1
McCain Pizzapockets 2pack 2X $1 = $2
Red peppers 4pack 1x $2 = $2
Pineapple 1x $2 = $2
Dove Deo + Soap 2pack: 3x $1 + 3x $1.5 - 3x $2 WUB2 different = $1.50
Flax Bread 1x $2 = $2
Knorr Sidekicks 4x $1 - B3G1Free = $3
Sun Rype juice 1x $0.99 = $0.99
Dr.Oetker Casa di Mama pizza 2x $3 - $1.5 WUB2 = $4.50
Subtotal = $19.99
HST = $0.33
Total paid = $20.32
Total value of coupons used = $16.50
Freebies = 8 Ziplocks and 3 Dove deos (assuming 1:1 split of $2 WUB2 Dove)
Now, just a little blurb about spending 20 bucks and still not being able to make a decent, healthy meal, which is how I would have viewed this transaction before I started couponing. One cannot eat ziplock bags and deodorants after all. Somehow though, it does all work out and throughout the course of a month different things are on sale and it all evens out, and also money saved through couponing is spent on fruits, veggies, and meat.
The meat - I usually save $20 Airmiles Metro giftcards for stocking up on extra lean ground beef when on sale at Metro for 1.99/lb, and also find that sliced deli meat for sandwiches tends to cost me less at Metro/Sobeys deli counter than when I used to buy prepackaged, which was a surprise to me, I always thought only the 'expensive' meats are at deli counter. Another plus is avoiding the packaging gas and machinery the prepackaged sliced meats go through. The less processing, the better. I have a BMO airmiles MC and also my car insurance company gives me airmiles, so it's relatively easy to collect enough for metro giftcards with those 2.
Fruits and Veggies - I always stop by and buy fresh from farmers when driving thru rural Ontario, it's always yummier and doesn't have the nasty wax that makes produce shiny in grocery stores, and I visit pick your own farms in summer. I don't necessarily save money but the produce is tastier and it's fun being out in the sun picking own fruits and veggies on a nice summer day. I don't buy produce at Walmart, there's something about the layout of the store and the smells and the traffic that just turns me off the Walmart produce section, and I don't care even if it's free.
