So apparently J&J is reformulating their shampoos and stuff becasue they have some bad chemicals...but they are not recalling...which doesn't make sense to me...if they are such bad chemicals then recall so more babies are not exposed to these chemicals.....grrrrrrr....

The cheaper baby products have always had the possibility of having crap ingredients in them. The 'tear free' formulas, well, they aren't tear free from having less-harsh stuff in them, but they are 'tear free' because they have an anesthetic built into them or something. If you're worried about the chemicals your kids are exposed to, consider switching to the usually more pricy, but earth friendly brands (if I can't pronounce most of the ingredients in it then I'm thinking it might not be best for my kids skin). And for what it's worth, yes, there's bad chemicals and carcinogens in most of them but keep in mind that you are applying this onto your baby's hair/scalp/skin and even though some of it may be absorbed while bathing them, your child is not actually consuming them.

Not happy with this. I'm thinking of making my own - the only way to be really sure.

I don't know if you'd have to make your own to be sure they are 'safe', just read labels and research a bit. Places like Rocky Mountain Soap company have products that are pretty darn good, just more expensive than the cheap lines the department stores sell. I don't have the time/energy to make my own stuff, but I am picky about what I use for my kid's hair as I have a very irritable scalp and my kids had eczema as babies, not cradle cap like the doctor said it was (cradle cap doesn't last three years!). If you have the time and resources to make your own then that's great. Let me know what you want to trade of coupons for some, lol!

I just called them and it turnes out they are almost done the reformulation...and they are not recalling because the minute amount of the chemicals are not anywhere near enough to hurt anyone....it makes me feel better to call them and have great customer service and have them explain to me what is going on...

Dr. Bronner's shampoo is available in health stores. It can be diluted a lot so it may seem pricey at first but you really get a lot of use out of it. I use it to wash my hair. I buy the large one liter bottle for about 20 dollars and it last for months.
I also bought a bottle at northgate london drugs about 2 months ago, I'm not sure if they have the baby variety.

I wrote them and told them how much I love their soap. They sent me a few small samples and a coupon that could unfortunately only be used in the states.
They also sell bars that can be used for shampooing. I suspect that the bars may last a really long time.
Here are the ingredients of the baby mild soap:
INGREDIENTS:
Water, Organic Coconut Oil*, Potassium Hydroxide**, Organic Olive Oil*, Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Citric Acid, Tocopherol

Ironically, i went to a craft show today and one of the soap vendors handed me one for my baby.... all natural ingredients. Hope it works well!

I read somewhere (not from J&J) that you would have to wash your babies hair 620 times a day for their whole lifetime for the amount of quarternuim-15, which releases formaldehyde, a known carcinogen to have any health impact. Although I am not happy to know that this is in J&J products, in all reality - pretty much everything we use could cause cancer if you listen to the news enough. I've done some research on this and am confident that my use of J&J products on my son will not be detremental to either of us. It is just my opinion and I support any of those that feel the need to make a switch, but for me, I think it is more of a media hype because it does involve babies. Just my opinion, but I do believe an educated one.

I wouldn't use J&J on my kids just because of my own sensitivities and because I am aware of some of the crap in their stuff (lotions...get absorbed, etc). Oddly, the only shampoo I've had any luck using in the last year is now the Aveeno shampoo, which is J&J, because of my sensitive scalp.
Look up TSP - trisodiumphosphate. It's used for things like stripping walls before painting, cleaning driveways. Yet it's safe to be in Cheerios and Nutrios - my box of TSP in the closet has huge warnings to not touch or ingest the stuff, yup, totally 'safe in small quantities' as general mills claims. Yet, in the U.S. their cheerios no long have TSP in them but another ingredient instead. Unless we all want to live in the woods, grow our own food and hunt our own meat, it's pretty hard to escape all the bad chemicals and carcinogens out there. Mr. Clean Magic Erasers also contain a form of formaldehyde. Even the Norwex version of them does. I guess we just need to be educated and chose what products to use with which chemicals.
