Edited so I didn't offend anyone! - Sorry -
Very interesting Furry Feet. We live in a village of maybe 400 people and by some luck, the same month we moved in, so did a small Raw Food Pet store. I'd been wanting to feed our dog, Starbuck raw since he was small but I didn't know how to do it right. With this awesome lady and her store, we get it all measured our for his weight and with the proper balance of (disgusting) ingredients. You are right. Some of the stuff in their may look and smell disgusting (I'm talking about you, tripe) but it is doing Starbuck well.
She also sells alot of really awesome grain free products for the cats and for when we run out of raw for the dog. We feel very blessed that we can walk 5 minutes and grab our pet products.
oohh...you beat me to it.
I would not buy my guy ANY product that has anything to do with Diamond.
That is also, my choice.

sotypical - yes I did know that...which is why I don't feed Diamond brand either. I am shoked at how many companies have had recalls! I mean I know it's an industry that maked millions if bags of kibble a day but your absolutely right to have the opinion not to feed it! Diamond lost my trust when not only did their food kill many pets but they didn't do much for the families that it affected! Therefore agreed, I won't feed it either!
I just wonder why, if you won't feed it why even mention it in your post? Unfortunately your post make it sound like a good choice because it is a "high end food" - it may be sold as a high end food but it is no where near one. I would consider a bag of Doritos better quality.
And yes, almost every dog food has had a recall at some point. I believe Fromm is one of the very few that haven't.
In case anyone is wondering - I feed my dog Acana - it is made by Champion Pet Foods - There has been a Champion Pet Food in the past in Australia - but only one that I could find mention of. It is made here in Canada and made with mostly Canadian ingredients.
"Also, did you know that there are very few manufacturing companies in Canada and the US that make dog food? Did you also know that the same company (Diamond) that makesMOST of our high end rediculously expensive dog food also makes the Kirkland (costco) brand? Meaning that it's the same company and the same line with very few changes except the bag it goes into."
I was stating this as making a point. I also stated that a boot has a better nutrition analysis than most dog foods but I don't intend on feeding that either. LOL
Sorry for the confusion I won't post again, I realize that dog food is a very touchy subject so even with my eductional background I likely shouldn't have brought it up! I do appologize!
I've been feeding raw for 12 years and pet food is the one thing I won't be frugal with. I fed processed pet food before and the difference in the health of my pets after switching was incredible. I'm a pet sitter and it makes me sick to see so many of the animals I take care of doing badly because the nutrition they are getting is bad. Cats who are fed kibble have terrible mouths and tend to get kidney disease and become diabetic because of dry food that's loaded with grain which should never enter their bodies.
Raw pet food never goes on sale but I'd rather spend a bit more and not worry about getting their teeth cleaned and I know my cat is hydrated because there is so much moisture in her food. Tripe does stink but the amazing enzymes make up for it!
That's so cool that you have a raw store near you! When I had a dog and 3 cats a bunch of us had a raw food co-op where we would buy cases of turkey necks, chicken necks, pork necks, riblets and spines, offal etc in huge quantities. Now that I just have one cat I buy it pre-made, either Nature's Variety (they have coupons!) or Pets for life. If I get another dog I'll likely start making it again.

That's how we feel as well. Growing up, our animals had supermarket food, and they did ok. But now that I have the dog and 3 cats, we wanted to make a commitment to our pets health. We do spend alot on food for them, but they also eat less of it. We still do get them random treats from the grocery store but I think they like the ones from the raw food lady better.
We tried to switch our cats to the raw food, but it didn't go well. So they just stick to the grain free. To each his own I guess.
