I was checking the flyers online today and found that Independent has formula and wipes on cheaper than Superstore. We have a Superstore here in Brockville, but not an Independent. So I called Superstore customer service to see if they would do a price match given that they have signs all over the store and online that say they will price match with competitors on these items.
I did read the fine print at the bottom of the web page and it does say that "major competitors" are determinded only by them.
I guess my beef is why bother going to all the trouble of the signs if they get the last say in who they will and will not compete with?

I'm not sure about an official PM'ing poilicy, but I imagine you would need the store to be within reasonable driving distance in order for it to be considered a "competitor". Plus, you would need to have the physical flyer to show them, not a webpage...so how would you get a hold of that?

they don't consider independant "competition" because they are both owned by the same company...

I thought maybe in this digital age they might accept me showing them the Independent web page on my phone's browser. The closest Independent store is only about a 15 min. drive away. Too far to make it worth while to actually go there, but easily competition.
I guess with the big deal they make of their "price matching for moms" it's a PITA that they can't match within their own company.

The Superstore here used to take the 10-12-15% off coupons from Extra Foods (during their family days at the start of the month)...then they stopped, and the reason was they belonged to the same company and it was taking too much business away from Extra Foods.
There have been times when I've had to leave a competitor's flyer at the till because they said it was needed for auditing purposes...it seems to depend on who's working.
