Anyone else keep track of products that have downsized? I'm quite surprised that a lot of people don't notice even notice when they've made changes to the product size (all in the name of keeping prices the same, of course). I'm sure glad there are coupons for a lot of these products...

Here's some items that have changed over the years:

Breyer's Ice Cream - was 2 Liters, then 1.89 Liters...now 1.66 Liters (Chapmans has been the one holdout; they are still 2 Liters)

Green Giant frozen veggies - was 1 Kg, now 750 grams

Minute Maid punch and juices - was 355 mL, now 295 mL

Stovetop stuffing - don't remember what size it was, but it is now 120 grams and doesn't serve more than two people

Knorr and Lipton dry soup mixes have both been downsized

One thing I'm surprised about is Kraft Peanut Butter, the regular ones are still 1 kg.

Please feel free to add more to this.

Those chip companies are so sneaky...the bags are the same size, they just pump them with more air. You need to look at the grams to find the shrink.

Those chocolate bar companies can be sneaky too...they put out a special sized bar that is half the amount of the normal bar (supposedly for the weight-conscious) and charge you the same price. Same with the Coke cans...

Thanks Kyeste and Pinkiepie for adding to the list!

I don't remember the 540g, but the really large ones are now 907g and I think they used to be one full Kg.

Has the Catelli pasta changed at all? I think the sizes now are 900g and 450g.

Oh, I just remembered another thing: Yogurt tubs were 750g and are now 650g.

I watched a show about this! The companies say that they reduce sizes rather than increasing prices. They say the consumer would rather pay the same price for less, than pay more for the "usual" amount. With prices ever increasing, this is their way of keeping costs to us down. I don't know if I'm buying it, lol.....literally!

microwave meals have shrank or have a high ratio of cheap, heavy sides (mashed potatoes, sauce) in them. i've found the quality of hungry man meals have gone down a lot since a few years ago

this is probably why i haven't noticed many products shrink
i don't pay much attention to the grams and most packaging is roughly the same size before and after the shrink. i notice when the quality goes down

This is one that absolutely drives me nuts! When I make chicken soup, I always used to use one 500g package of Catelli fine egg noodles. Now they come in 375g packages, so I have to use one and a half - and the cost sure goes up!

Very true! I hadn't bought KD in years, then a few months ago the cases were on cheap so I bought one. Was very surprized to see how wimpy those noodles were!

I got a more than a little peeved at Classico for reducing it's tomatoe sauce jars... I had tons of canning to do, and only noticed it when I mixed the jars from 2007 with the jars from 2009... yup, much smaller jars now. And it was "for the customers convenience". But not only did they reduce the size, but they have also put the price up. Grrrr.

I don't buy egg noodles enough to notice, but now that you mention it...the package does seem smaller.

Have you tried the PC Mac and White Cheddar Dinner? My children like it a lot more than the Kraft. It uses regular macaroni, so you can add a bit more of your own macaroni to stretch it out further.
