For pies I love spy apples. I have heard Cortland is a good apple for cooking but I will search high and low for spy- normally a farmer's market or orchard has the bags but the regular grocery stores don't seem to have bags of spy. I also like to eat spy. I was on an orchard website this morning to see if they said anything different and nope. Mac would probably be good for apple sauce.

I make a lot of apple pie and Mac was the best I am sure it would be the same for apple crisp as well, the worst was Royal Gala apples the seem soft but when cooking them for 30 more minutes then my recipe it still seemed they were just peeled

I like Granny Smith or the ones from my back yard. No idea their name, but not crabs.

I have always used Green Granny Smith apples and I think they work the best. Sprinkle some lemon juice, cinnamon and sugar on them for apple cakes.

When I bake pies I use 1/2 Granny Smith & 1/2 Spartan
You need that tang of the Granny Smith but I find them too sour so I use half & half & Spartans are a good "inbetween". Red Apples on thier own are almost too bland & MacIntosh I find stay too hardI am currently looking for coupons for non parishable foods or grocery coupons good until December to help with Christmas food helpers.
If you have any to trade please PM me.
