Hello all,
I just moved here and although this is hands down the most beautiful place in Canada I have ever seen, I'm finding that it is impossible to find a job here!! Does anyone else have this problem? I have handed out well over 100 resumes and am out of ideas! I am 21 and just looking for any old job to get me by until school starts in September. If anyone has any Ideas or has seen any "hiring" signs I would love it if you could let me know! Thanks so much! This thread is currently associated with: N/A

Hello and welcome! Unfortunately I have experienced much the same thing the times when I was on break from school. I have had most success nannying, and friends of mine mostly pick up seasonal work at shops around now.
Starbucks is hiring, but you do need to do come back again and again to remind them about you because they get so busy. Victoria is beautiful, and there are opportunities, but I must say it took me getting used to because it has a high population of intelligent young workers with education and skill sets.
I'll post back if I see anyone hiring. Best of luck!

Sorry you're finding it tough. I had the same problem when I moved from the UK to Victoria.
I had my best job finding success when I handed over a resume and cover letter edited to include the store/cafe name, and then either went back or called to follow up two days later.
It might also be worth trying smaller neighbourhood stores in areas like Cook St Village, Oak Bay and Fairfield, especially if you're willing to consider part-time and on-call over the holidays.
Good luck!

depending where you live you could find different type of work... with the holidays coming up I am not if the "big stores" like Walmart are still hiring. After Christmas you'll have the tourism season starting in town, hotels are always looking for staff and if you are willing to work "graveyard" shift you'll be set.
try those websites

Here is a huge list of links to places in town...

they aren't all necessarily currently hiring, but some of them are! When I was looking for work, this website helped give me ideas.

Try Malatest and Associates. Start pay is $12/hr. A lot of post secondary students work there as well as retirees. Just need to know how to type more than 40wpm.

I use to hire admin staff regularly and recommend typingmaster.com for checking typing speed....just to check how close you are to the 40wpm. On the right side of the screen Is the option to test your typing speed for free. PS - if you haven't already its always great to have someone review your resume and cover letter.
