my expereince never buy
The conventional wisdom has always been that buying warranties is not smart, but given the fact that many or most computers these days are made in China, and in my opinion break down much more often, I am starting to think it's a wise move. It also depends on the company. Some don't honour the warranties the way they should so stick with the big box stores and hope for the best. Nothing is more frustrating than having your computer break down two days after the normal warranty runs out.
A laptop is about the only thing I would buy an extended warrranty since they have such a dreadful need for repairs over a 3 year period. For all other items remember the profit margin to the retailer is around 80-85% profit meaning most people never get value . Once you pay a couple of hundred or more for a warranty you can typically pay for a repair job with the money not spent on the warranty.
I am sorry I didn't buy and extended warranty for my son's laptop. It was expensive and when it died a warranty may have helped make repairs instead of having to replace it completely.
This was a laptop that was transported alot and necessary for his school so even if it could have been repaired under the ordinary warranty it would have meant being without it which was not possible. The replacement laptop did get an extended warranty and has already paid for itself.
Other than that item I would not buy a warranty.
Not if it's Future Shop...buyer beware and ask more than one sales person there. I have worked in the industry and know the way to sell it to you so it sounds great..Unless you have been in the industry you will never know!! Staples not too bad depending on store..research research research!!! I can't stress this enough..Google the question and reviews of different store extended warranties.

I don't get a warranty for computers... 1 year is enough. Honestly paying $100+ to extend your warranty on a $800 laptop does not seem useful to me. If it has no problems after a year, it most likely will be fine for the second and third year. I'm pretty sure warranties do not cover accidents like if you spill water on it or such things that might actually happen (for me at least).
After a year, if I do have an expensive problem to repair, I'll just get a new laptop that will be much better. Ya I will have to pay again but honestly I never had a computer/laptop have any serious problems within 2 years.. Most of the time the fixes are under $100 anyway...
