question for Diaper stockpiles

so i am 6.5 months preg. and i am a stockpiler but i am scared to do diapers. how do you know what brand will work best for baby. and HOW do you know how MANY of what size to get??? if you guys could give me a guideline thanks... like how many packs or boxes of what size thanks so much!!! i plan on redeeming shoppers pts but i dont know what sizes to get in my redemption!!

it is a good question. many moms to be stock up on SDM GC"s instead.. so once baby arrives then they have the funds set aside to buy diapers as needed.

In my experience, diapers were hit and miss. I've heard different things that Pampers work better for girls and Huggies work better for boys and this was true in my case. My daughter out grew the NB diapers really fast, so size 1 would be a good size to stock up on right away. But I do agree that stocking up on GC's if possible would be a good idea.

very true... its rather hit and miss for sizes. my cousin is 1 1/2 years old and in size 3s, my daughter out grew size 3 faster then any sizes and is now in size 4 (she is only 10 months)

i would stock up on giftcards rather than diapers just so you dont end up wasting money

I'd say if its going to be your only child be careful what you stock up on.

I intend to have more, as well as have a sister and a sister in law who have young babies or are due soon. So if somethings a miss for me I can always pass it along to them or save it for the next baby.

i use pampers
i had a girl that was 7lb 12oz , i used newwborn diapers only in the hospital then switched to size 1, i used about 4 cases of size one (about 800 diapers ), then switched to sizee 2 and used those for about 5 months, and currently in size 3 and will probably be in size 3 for a while.

well..I plan on starting a small stockpile myself.

I will probably pick up 1 NB, 1 size 1 and 1 or 2 size 2 to start.

Also - if you find a good deal, I'd prob pick up a combo of huggies and pampers. I used Pampers with my daughter but I'm not opposed to get a pack of huggies so that I can try both with the new baby...

I have 2 girls and I could use any brand. I didn't have problems with leaking or rashes at all. I would say get a few size 1 and 2 but stock up more for size 3 and 4. My daughter has been in size 3 for months now. They grow slower once they hit 6 months so they stay in the same diaper size for longer. Do not go by the weight on the pack of diapers, it means nothing.

I wouldnt stress too much over it... Walmart was really good about exchanging for us.

I had bigger babies (8lb 4 oz and 9lbs 9oz) and used 2-3 packs of newborns, 4 cases of size 1 (~200 in each), 2 cases size 1-2 (Costco), We were in size 3 for what seemed like forever (stock up on this size) and a couple size 4 cases. With my youngest (who refuses to be potty trained we are now using size 5 or 6 but I am hoping we are almost done with Diapers...

I had bought a lot of pampers and it turned out both couldn't use them due to the added scents and colors. Walmart was really good and let me exchange them for Huggies diapers.

It's hard to tell what kind of diapers will work best and how long they will be in them. I have 4 kids, with the first I used huggies, the next 2 pampers and with the 4th both huggies and pampers work fine with her. my first and 3rd where almost 9lbs and never wore nb diapers. my other 2 where just over 8lbs and only wore nb's for about a week. For my kids the size of diaper they where in was equal to the age in months they where up to size 5 then they stayed in size 5 till potty time. Don't get to carried away and buy to much, i made this mistake with #1 and ended up giving away a lot of diapers.

I'd stock up if I were you (If its a good price)... If a diaper brand doesn't work for your baby, you'll have diapers for if you have more children, or you will be stocked up for baby showers in the future!! Congrats!

We're going to be caring for 2 foster babies (0-1 yr) and since the children are constantly circulating (new babies every 2-3 weeks), I've been stocking up on any brand if one child is allergic to one brand I can just save it for the next child. Once our funding comes in I'm going to begin stocking up on formula. Whatever is on sale and stockpiling it for babies who use those brands of formula.
I'm kind of freaked about Pampers baby dry because I've cared for 2 little boys who both got massive burns from them, they had welts for weeks it was awful because they were in pain.. But I hear of others who's children use them just fine..
Ultimately, I am going to buy a few high-end cloth diapers at a time and slowly build a stock of those since it is easier then disposable diapers and BOnus! Its almost free too! And enviro friendly!

I would wait until you have the baby to stock up, honestly. If something was to happen, you will be even more depressed with diapers around (trust me).

And you don't know how the baby will grow, what they will be sensitive to... just wait!

I would also suggest not stocking up too much unless you have managed to get them for basically free. You have no way of knowing what will work for your baby.

We started out in huggies. It was a fiasco. He leaked urine and poo. he has skinny legs so huggies just didn't fit. I then tried pampers swaddlers and those worked while he was in newborn and size 1.

As he got older, it seems pretty well anything works. My favorite are the Target Up and Up brand. They are far cheaper full price than anything on sale in Canada. If I buy in Canada, we have used and have no issues with Costco Kirkland brand, Walmart parent's choice, Fisher Price and Pampers. Huggies overnight are great.

My friend's toddler has only ever fit huggies. She has chunky legs and nothing else fits.

It is also hard to stock up as you don't know how long they will need each size. My 23 month old is still in size 3. His little friend is in size 5. I doubt my son will ever wear size 5 - he should be potty trained before that.

( Night diapers (ie huggie overnights) are your friend. Took me months and months to start using them and it made a difference in his sleep. )
