Stockpile Dec 2011....

I am calling out for organization help, I know there are ppl better at mass organization then I am...

I live in 2 bedroom apartment, I run an in-home business in one bedroom and that bedroom shares with part of my stockpile. My stockpile has crept into every possible room,

Hall Closet = food stuff


2x Resin Shelving (work room/stock room) holding mostly cleaners and laundry soap....there is a smaller 4 tier shelve in there as well holding sewing crafts, canned goods, & soda

What is not pictured is the 4 totes of health and beauty in my sleeping bedroom as well as the entire underside of bed is full of toilet paper/paper towel.

Any Ideas on how to better organize to get stock to flow better.....I find I am having to really search out items.

Should I take a pic of the entire room as to show how small it is?

That is a fabulous stockpile ... as for organization i also say more backsets/rubbermaid containers can always be helpful as well as a sort of 'master list' that you can alter and update (kinda like a treasure map to find what you are looking.

When I started because I have such little space, I used a system of colorcoded rubbermaid containers and kept updated lists on the computer that I could add/change depeding on what I bought, used, or gave away.

Wow. nice. Maybe you should have a catalog of where you items are like they catalog books in the library in alphabetical order. lol :). Or maybe you want to do it in the small store inventory way like catalog in an excel spread sheet ( Excel or access allows you to set up simple formulas to add or subtract your total for you, like when you take an item out, all you have to do is change the take out number and the rest of the sheet will be changed to account that by itself if you have a simple formula in), with info such as where your items are, how many do you have (net total), when was the purchase day, when was the last day you took out an iteam, and how many coupons you have left for the item and their expiration dates? If you do it this way, you will need to map out your storage place.This way, you will for sure know where to find your stuff.

Fab idea to colour code the containers so I know what is what....
Now to learn Excel so I can do an inventory......

I hear you about the space issue. I live in a one bedroom basement apartment in a house. It's not your typical apartment, in that it doesn't have at all enough storage. Let's just say.. I have one closet. My stockpile is in my living room/kitchen.

Great stockpile - just noticed you took the cereal out of boxes - make sure you jot down the expire date with a sharpie in case its not printed on bag (which it usually isn't) Other than that more shelves or a white two door cabinet may help. The cabinets go on sale at Canadian Tire, Zellers and Walmart all the time.

If one does choose to stockpile, I do like your method. It's always updated and at a glance info with fresh info. You have explained it well for those who may not be very familiar with spreadsheets and/or excel.

Definitely, I would also start with 1. doing some inventory - write down what you have and how many of each - followed up by 2. boxing up those lysols and tides and cat food - I know they look so pretty there but they take too much space and if that's your home office they are in, that's just too much visual clutter - and taking them to downstairs locker (you didn't mention if you have one?) and 3. suspend buying peanut butter and brisk and all other stuff you have a lot of until you're down to 2 jars or something, even if it's a really good deal. It's boring to always eat and use same old same old, even if it was free, and there will always be deals.
I also live in a small apartment and I have the cleaners, laundry det, TP, papertowels in boxes in locker downstairs, and only 1 month supply of them upstairs. Instead of looking at neat rows of laundry det, I look at my inventory spreadsheet and it's just as much fun and I don't feel like I'm living in a convenience store and when I have people over, they would never know I'm one of the extreme couponing crazies :) unless I decide to share.
