I have sent away to Equifax in the past for a free credit report/score.. I am not sure how I got the form to do this but now I cannot find it anywhere.
For the free report (basic) one time per year:
http://www.equifax.com/ecm/canada/EFXCreditReportRequestForm.pdf
From the main page: http://www.consumer.equifax.ca/home/en_ca
http://www.transunion.ca/ca/personal/creditreport/consumerdisclosure_en.page
In-person office locations: http://www.transunion.ca/sites/ca/personal/consumersupport/contactus_en.page
They don't give you the score, or the number tho. At least that was a couple of years back when I checked with them.
Oh yes, you are right just the report.
I remember that now too... Do you know where I can get my score? (free of course :))
Laura, we got a full report and score through our credit union. I don't know if you would just have to ask, or do as we did - we went in to discuss finances.
If the report is good, than don't worry about the score... (its just a number)
Also, some reports go further back than others, which others (other than equifax) are there to get reports from? (free if possible :) lol)
Natalka. . . you got your credit score, but by having an institution pull it, it brings your score down and is recorded ON your credit bureau who and when they pulled your bureau.
That's ok, as long as you were making a serious inquiry. . .but if you're just "shopping around", it's not a good idea.
Doesn't that depend on what they went in to the institution to do? From my understanding, if they went to apply for products then the score will go down.. if it is for opening bank accounts and other kinds of things, its just a soft hit which doesn't affect credit scores.
Excellent question. I apologize for not being clearer.
Sometimes, being in the business I am, I assume everyone is applying for "something".
It is true, that in certain circumstances, a bankcan pull a "soft" inquiry. However, don't count on that neccesarily. Some do. Some don't.
Your best bet is to ask directly. Never assume. . like I just did. .
Thanks for bringing up the question Brynhilde
I never acutally looked at my score. I just looked at my report.
I personally always look at the score then the report. If I look at the score and find it unusual, I'll look at the report after to see if there are errors such as companies not reporting payments that were made on time, the correct amount of the payment, etc,. You'd think it wouldn't happen but it happens all the time to people.
I am very interested in what my score is, I just got a mortgage which has effected my credit and I want to know where I stand... Again, does anyone know a good site to find this on?
It will cost you to find out your actual score. There are websites that will charge about $30 a month for you to get your monthly report.
