Zellers: 50% off one item, limit one per customer (Dec 26-31)

I've been trying to follow this debacle closely but I think I am confusing myself now... can we price match and use the 50% off coupon still? I am thinking that the PM price will be considered a "sale" price therefore rendering the coupon useless - but the PM isn't Zellers sale price ... any help would be grateful.

According to their coupon policy, Number 10 states that you can price match and use a coupon. On Zeller's Facebook wall, before the coupon and posts were deleted, the Zeller's rep even referred to this (number 10) stating that you could do both. My daughter did, however, this was all before this latest disaster!!

all the people arguing 'is this considered electronics', i thought the coupon wording meant anything from the electronics section is excluded, no?

I don't get the stand mixer mania. i don't even own a mixer and cook and bake and manage ok with a whisk, and use multiple vacations in a year as some sort of feel good status symbol if you will, not the red stand mixer on my countertop. for some reason people really go crazy over these mixer things. must be the kinda cool retro design and not the function, i guess.

I wouldn't be surprised that many a times Zellers is in the woods. If you can't put out a coupon right, what is it to say you can execute a correction right. The latter is much harder than the former operational wise.

For all the debate here, imagine how much the store managers are cursing the HO. First they came out with this last minute coupon that gave store much more work to do for each transaction, not to mention the reading of the coupon, the entering it in the system, the cashiers calling the manager to overrite or clarify. Then on top of all that, they have the lovely job of TURNING everyone down on a coupon they just spent days labouring over. LOL. Bonnie whatever her name is, is a real winner.

Good grief. What a debacle. Stillhave not used the coupon. Maybe today for some TP if the REGULAR price is OK.

I have always wanted a stand mixer for baking but could never bring myself to pay full or even sale price. It was a nice parting gift from Zellers

I don't really mind by the new change, I am still gonna get a ton of savings with the coupons and im sure some cashiers won't care about the change either and will let it pass. I don't see why alot of people are upset, it's so rare to even see a coupon like this and to want even more on top of it is kinda greedy. I don't like to throw out that word but it's by definition.

Wow, this is crazy. I admit I was really surprised they allowed usage on a sale item. I ended up with King bedsheets normally $60 for $15. My DH got a new shovel. We went on Tuesday, were very happy with our purchases and stopped it at that.

I think any retailer needs to realize when they post a coupon (especially on a social networking site like Facebook!) anyone can print a million copies, and find a way to use it a million times. Yes, that's abusive of the intent of the coupon but voila, Zellers get shocked by its usage and has to amendl the offer.

I don't think they can randomly change the rules of what is clearly printed on the coupon. That's a bait and switch and is illegal. Here's info from the government http://www.competitionbureau.gc.ca/eic/site/cb-bc.nsf/eng/00258.html.

A quote from their site:

"You are attracted to a store by an advertisement for a bargain-priced product. Once inside, you discover that the product that was advertised, the "bait," is sold out or otherwise not available. The switch occurs when a salesperson pressures you into purchasing a higher priced item as a replacement, or if you find yourself induced to make other purchases while inside the store. In both cases, the retailer successfully captures your shopping dollars by luring you to the store with an advertised bargain that was never intended to be made available in reasonable quantities."

so I am not eligible personally cos I didn't end up actually making the trip and wasting my time and gas, but if anyone did, and is super annoyed about it, you could submit a complaint, the 'misprint' explanation is obviously bs. not that you'll get anything out of zellers, but zellers might be fined.

Tobiwobi - if you read the above, you will notice that the next paragraph states:

"Retailers who contravene the law may be ordered by a court to stop the conduct, to publish a corrective notice, and/or to pay an administrative monetary penalty."

I believe Zeller's has already published the corrective notice. They honoured the coupon before the notice was published.
