Someone won the 50 million - what would you do?

I just heard the 50 Million for Lotto Max was won here! (not by me!!)

So if it was you -- what would do you?

Here's my plan....

$25 million -locked away, hopefully earning some interest!! (to be used in the future for children's education, donations etc)
$2 million my parents
$2 million my bro
$2 million my sis
$2 million in laws
$2 million sister in law
$2 million to Chrons/Colitis Research
$2 million to Alzheimer/Dementia research
$1 million, "fun" buy a house, a car, clothes etc!
$10 million start a charity that (things I have needed help with the times my husband has been sick)
1. helps people in need pay for parking at the hospital
2. helps people find sitting for young kids if they are visiting sick spouse in the hospital
3. Provides new reading material in the ER and OR waiting rooms!
4. Provides free meals to the people waiting in ER or OR waiting rooms!
5. other odds and ends that may be required!

are you referring to Ontario or Ottawa? when you say 'here'

if its Ottawa were sh$t out of luck.

If I won, I would get rid of the money quick.:smartass:
My plan would be
10% to charity
10% to family and friends
10% to savings
10% to emergency fund
10% to stocks
10% to mutual funds
10% to RAOK through out the year - like the people who paid off KMart layaways in the states, or a small diamond in the Salvation Army kettles:top:
10% to housing and car
10% retirement
10% travel to see friends, family, the world:shade:

I would still work, but cut my hours and do more volunteer work.
I would not drastically change my lifestyle.
I would still save and use coupons.:P

Honestly I'd have no idea! Other than the usual pay off debt, buy new house/car, give some to family, travel and put money away for my kids.

50 million is so much money! I would be over the moon with 1 million, let alone 50! wowzers!

I wonder what the taxes are like?

I would disconnect my phone, then figure it out. As soon as word hit you have money, the freeloaders come out of the woodwork.

probably, but I doubt to the ferver of today......I don't think they take canadian coupons on whatever tropical island I would be on.......:cheesygrin:

you don't pay taxes on winnings in canada, the money is all yours

If I won $50 million

I'd ....

- Save $30 million
- $2 Million to my brother
- $2 Million to my parents
- $2 million or so to help hospitals and others in need
- the rest [~$14million] I would use it to buy a couple houses, and a few cars, and other basic essentials for living.
- If I still have some extra money I might help some family members or friends
- Travel the world

All I can think of so far :P

Just don't answer the phone and let the machine get it.
For the important people in your life, give them your "new" phone number.

I would give my Father most of the money, keep some for my family.. hubby/kids.. save for the kid's education.. buy some acres near Thunder Bay.. donate to a shelter I used to work at.

Lotto companies do recommend that when you've won, immediately turn your phone ringer off, pick up and deposit the cheque, then take a few days off to getaway with your family and think it all over.

I heard that when they verify your ticket, there's already a bank/financial planner at the lottery office to "advise" you.
