OK, So it's been a few months since my surgery and I thought it was time to share my story. Around 4 years ago I lost 120 pounds. I've kept the majority of the weight off. I reciently had a tummy tuck to get rid of all the skin thats there after loosing so much weight. My husband and I don't make a lot of money, he works at retail, I'm self employed. When we reciently sold a piece of land there was just enough $ to cover the cost of my surgery. My husband agreed, and I had surgery in November. I was off work for 2 months, and had no $ saved to live off of, self employed so no employment insurance. Here's where coupons come into the picture! Before my surgery , all I could do was try to stock up on everything, so we could survive with only 1 income. I've been couponning for a while , so I've gotten pretty good at it! Needless to say, I just returned to work today, and my fridge, freezer, cupboards and stock pile are overflowing!! There is no way that my family could have afforded to do this without coupons! We would have had to use that $ to bail ourselves out of a hole! Thanks to coupons, there is no hole, and we've got more groceries in the house than ever before! Thanks to all you SC'ers that have tought me the ropes, shared your coupons and your secrets! I never would have had this surgery without you all. I'm feeling great in my new body, and I'm no longer carrying around ( what felt like) someone elses body! Thanks again everyone!!

    Congratulations!!!

I have to ask, though - with losing that amount of weight, shouldn't the surgery have been covered? Maybe it varies, but I thought a tummy-tuck after extreme weight-loss was something that wasn't considered elective?

Either way - very happy for you for your weight-loss and the surgery

My doctor told me, up until a few years ago it was covered. Now it doesn't matter how bad of shape your in, they won't cover it, at least not in my province.

What a fabulous accomplishment in losing the weight and keeping it off. Learning to use coupons to your best advantage must have been hard work and time consuming, but did that ever pay off. Congrats on being able to have the surgery and the time off to recover properly. Nice brag!

Really? That seems such a shame... I always thought it was a great reward/incentive for those who really made the effort to get healthy and lose the weight. Trust me, I understand that not everyone has that nice, elastic skin that bounces back no matter what happens...
