I teach at an elementary school, and read about a company called terracycle on this site. They recycle/upcycle a variety of items that can't normally be recycled. I decided to sign up as a way to be environmentally friendly and to help my school raise some money. By sending back drink pouches, sandwich bags, and cookie and cracker wrappers we managed to raise 4000 points. We could have redeemed them for $40 for the school, but chose to use them to fund 8 months of clean water and sanitation for a school in a third world country. :)
Yesterday after school I got a phone call from Terracycle. I had won 50,000 points through a contest of their's that I had entered every time I shipped recyclables to them. So a $500 win for my school :) :)
