Some recipes start with food being ready on the stove top and are and then finished off inside the oven. Instead of having the bother of transferring the contents from the saucepans into an oven proof dish, it is safe to put these saucepans in the oven provided the temperature is kept under 400 degrees F. And, far better nevertheless, there is much less washing up!
