Zellers: Countdown to Closing - POST YOUR DEAL FINDS HERE!

There seems to be lots of misunderstandings in this thread. There was lots left at Jane/Wilson today. 7 bikes too.
There was a bunch of 24-26 tvs left at 30% off, video games were 40% off but most were over priced even with discount. Blank Media was 40% off, Toys were 50% off. Cookware was 60% off. Basically everything the ad the person posted for the other location. Prices before discount was the old tagged prices from about 3 months ago. So whatever it says on your tags now it should be after as well. I scanned about 70 items and most were exactly as tagged. Although some games were mispriced.

Nothing to get excited about but not bad:

Took a trip to Westmount Zellers in London today.
Hasn't gotten to the sales listed on here recently.
Most things are up to 40% off now, but still way to costly IMO.
I did notice that pet supplies/food was only 20% off as I wanted to get a toy for my parent's puppy.
Video games/multimedia only around 40%. And considering the starting price, still way to expensive.

A lot of prices have disappeared from the shelves, which makes it hard to know what the starting price is. I did notice that they have been putting sticker prices on things. A certain pillow design I have been waiting to go on sale is stickered at $24.99. I could have sworn it was less than $20 when it was on a shelf last time I was there. Made me wonder if they are not still inflating prices.

I don't think they are inflating prices rather than keeping to the prices from 3-4 months ago. Prices have jumped around in ALL Zellers since the start of the closing sales, in an attempt to confuse consumers. I do know a few prices on some items like Blank Media for example was always $36.99 for 100 pack Sony dvd+r. Last month they were lower priced at $24.99 for most of the month, but that was not the original sticker price. They do have some stickered in an attempt to make them look more like deals with the big red sales tags but don't fall for it.

There's deals to be found if you know what the prices are elsewhere in advance. For example the Blank media above is always cheaper at many places and can be bought for less than $20.00 many times during the year. Why pay more for them at ZELLERS even with the discount.

I completely agree that it is in the shopper's best interest to know your items and prices before you shop at any of the clearance Zellers.
Almost everyone found that price were inflated before this clearance, so compare to other competitor stores' pricing.
Also, when you have no ability to exchange or return- you better be really sure that Zeller's item is exactly what you want.

most of you probably haven't noticed that they have been slowly inflating prices for weeks now in preparation for the liquidations.. they're sneaky sons of .... well, you know whats... all i can suggest though is please don't blame the employees at store level - it's all head office that's to blame for this.. even if the employees are rude and cranky, it's uncalled for, i know, but put yourself in their place.. everyone of them will be out of a job sooner or later.. head office is the evil entity :evil:

the only time i saw some decent prices was when they had an extra 50% off clearance, and that was so long ago!

I did notice the price on blank media was wildly out of proportion. Same with the printer ink. I can still get it cheaper at Walmart, even after the sale price (which I think was around 30-40% or so).

I should add that I checked out the pillow AFTER liquidation had already started. When I first looked at it, I'm certain it was on the shelf with a price around $19.99 with only 10% off. Now it's suddenly in a bin, stickered for $24.99 (I forget the percentage off, but not enough for me to buy it). Not the deal I was hoping for.

i'm just thankful that there is a place for us to share this info.... can you imagine walking in their blind, thinking you're actually getting a deal?

well we definitely know they have zero business sense... HBC has driven the company into the ground and are now making it a circus of nonsense.

I got caught on an expired item. I checked it over at the store, and I'd never bought it before so I had no idea it could expire. They put the security sticker over the expiry date so you couldn't see it at all. Turns out it expired in November of 2011. Well before liquidation even started. That's disgusting.

Sadly, what they are doing is what makes business sense these days. They are inflating prices so that on paper they can show greater losses when they really liquidate at true market prices. If they sell an item which cost them $80 for $100, it's a $20 profit, but if they say it "cost" them $120, the same item is a $20 "loss". They will use these "huge losses" to offset profits, in other words: to reduce any taxes they would have to pay. They are gaming the system with these bogus losses. They are very smart and our government will pat these "job creators" on the back while putting a greater burden on the back of ordinary taxpayers so that these corporations can "save the economy". If John or Mary Taxpayer did the same thing, they would get an aggressive audit up the wahoo. Our tax policies are socialism for the rich and well connected.

I was in yesterday morning and noticed some deals in a certain area.. but had to go to my Mom's, so I didn't get back to get them. Im waiting for the percentages to go up another 10% then i'll go back and grab the items i want.

well although the percentage didn't change decided to take advantage of the 60% of the gaming area. hubby already has the system so i bought myself some accessories and a DVD. no excuses to lose some weight even on rainy days :)

Okay, here is today's update for the Westmount Mall, London, Ontario location

Clothing - 40% off (Olympic clothing 60%, some lingerie 50%, ladies coats 70%)
Bedding - 40% off
Art - 50% off
Lamps - 50% off
Bath - 40% off
Pet - 30% off
Cleaning - 10% off
Food - 10% off
Patio Furniture - 40% off
Social Stationary - 40% off (basically cards that aren't Carlton, playing cards)
Binders - 60% off
Basic Stationary - 60% off
Home Office - 60% off (pens, markers, etc)
Scrapbooking - 40% off (still seemed like a lot there)
Carlton Cards - 80% off (little left, and good luck finding a matching envelope!)
Personal Hygiene - 30% off
Storage - 40% off
Toys - 40% off
Video Games - 30% off (basically all electronics were in the 30-40% off range)
Small Appliances - 40% off
Cookware/Bakeware - 50%
Satchels - 60% off (there are a lot of a messenger bag set that comes with a binder and pencil case left....best for girls though, as they all seem to involve pink)

Not much left in the makeup, just odds and ends. Only one jewelry stand (70% off) with only a few items.
Lots of razors, lotions, shampoos, etc. as they aren't a good price yet.
A lot of boxes look open, so I'd suggest maybe opening items you want to buy in front of an employee before actually scanning, to make sure everything is there and in one piece.

Boring, but well-meaning warning:

Please keep in mind that most people (myself included) reported that the Zellers clearance stores increased their prices in the weeks before the discounts.

Your basic "Buyer Beware" of knowing the current shelf prices at competitors' stores and what is a good sale are definitely in place for these clearance items.

Also, due to "no returns" you need to be really sure you want that item.

I'd also like to add check expiry dates. I already complained on Zellers' Facebook page of employees putting stickers over the expiry dates (at this particular store) and noticed today that the security stickers had suddenly disappeared off the item I got caught on.

But I agree completely. A lot of what is discounted is still not a great price. Another 10-20% and I'll be ready to buy.

our stores discounts were on average 10-20% higher than those stated above for the Northland location. im finding the yellow area is increasing quite fast. im trying to get there everyday as long as its nice out. walking is a great form of exercise. so im keeping a close on eye on alot of stuff with only 2 weeks or so left. i've missed out on a few deals thinking meh they'll be there tomorrow. NOPE. if its a good deal and you need it get it. ill be going back today hopefully if not tomorrow for sure to get those deals. lots left i just want to make sure i get one before they are gone. have to laugh at the card and matching envie joke.. im still perplexed how they have a ton of cards with no envies.. what are ppl taking twice the amount of envies with their one card. if so how are they doing it without getting caught? im wondering if they are going to get to a point where they just bundle the cards up for a set price $1? etc. to get rid of them. you take your chances with what you get and find your own envies. be great for making bookmarks etc.

Any idea when the discounts on "Food" and "Health and Beauty" (paper towels, shampoo, etc.) will increase? They are still at a mere 10% off.

So far I have not been impressed with my local Zellers, prices are still way too high.

heh General, they'll probably wait til the last few days to get rid of H&B and food cheap. it'll go fast.

I purchased a bunch of cards (at least 60 or so) for $42. I love to give nice cards, but refuse to pay more than one dollar for cards. I also stocked up on winter accessories hats, scarfs and mits as those seem to always get lost between my house and school. They were 80% off to, a great price. Ill be checking back next week too.

This is a partially related post....sorry didnt know where to put it..i went to the bay today and noticed that almost all of their clearance items were gone. i asked an associate..she said that any items they dont sell at the bay on sale/clearance they are shipping them to zellers. my zellers hasnt started liquidating yet but i hope it starts soon! and i hope to find these great deals too

the Zellers in Guelph is still at 40 to 70 percent off, the last day is June 18. When I was talking to a cashier on Wednesday she told me that on June 2, about 90 percent of the employees are done and that everything is going to be 90 percent off. I am waiting for the toys to go to 50 percent off, there are a few things I want to get for my daughter for Christmas.

Even at 10% my location is almost sold out of shampoo etc. Do people realize that is a terrible deal?

Visited the Cole Harbor Zeller's clearance yesterday. Found some good deal on clothing, 40-70% off. Food, Health, Beauty and cleaning supplies weren't a very good deal, except the 32loads of ABC for 1.99

Boy, liquidation isn't happening here yet, but after reading this thread, I don't hold out much hope of getting any great bargains! Most of those "big" discounts seem similar to sale prices -- less, even, if they've marked things up to begin with.

Funny how people who don't know will buy stuff up at a "liquidation" sale, even if it isn't a great price!
