I am hosting a St. Patrick's Day dinner and would appreciate any and all recipes and decorating ideas, thanks.
We always do corned beef and cabbage for St. Paddy's day supper. yum yum!
And...we also have green jell-o for dessert because have kids. lol. (Otherwise, who'd ever want to eat green jell-o???). I'm sure there are better "Irish" desserts than green jell-o though. ;)
I agree with the corned beef and cabbage - as well you could do an Irish Stew there's lots of variations online.
And of course add a touch of green food coloring to any drinks - and the green jello for dessert
Shepard's Pie is really traditional! I think there is also a crockpot version for convenience. I also have an amazing recipe for Chocolate Guinness Cake if you are interested. I am planning on making some sugar cookies with amaretto flavoured icing to bring into work for the day.
tonight after our valentines dinner my daughter was asking 'mommy what holiday is next', i told her st. patricks day was next..
i think i'll do sheppards pie and some boiled cabbage on the side. as for dessert, i saw some really awesome cakes on pinterest so i might give one of them a try!
Thanks, I will try the Irish Stew, asparagus (green) and Chocolate Guinness Cake with Chocolate Mint Ice Cream. If anyone has a good, easy Irish Stew recipe, I'd appreciate it as there are way to many on-line ones to choose from.
Last year I made stew, which we had with Irish soda bread.
I made 'green' cheesecake for dessert, lol!
Does anyone have a recipe for corned beef? We doing the St. Patty's Day thing this year and want to attempt corned beef. I always had it as a kid but my grandmother passed away last year and she was the one who made it.
Natalka, would love your recipe for Irish Stew! And I would also love any corned beef recipes :) Cabbage is the only "for sure" thing I have on the menu so far, lol.
sheets, I just made a beef stew and called it Irish! Most 'real' ones use stout, I think, but I didn't use beer. Also, lamb is traditional, but I use beef.
So I just cut inside or outside round steak in small pieces, add cubed potatoes, carrots, onions, mushrooms (fresh sliced or canned), salt, pepper, garlic powder.
I put these in a small roaster, add enough water to cover, bake at 350 for an hour and a half or so. Thicken with flour and water mixture.
Yummy, thanks Nat! I think I'll follow that basic idea and throw a bottle of Guinness in there :) With some cabbage sauteed with butter and onions on the side!
Ok, so now I want fried cabbage and onions! Hm... won't go with today's meal, but soon!
Does anyone know if you can use another cut of meat besides brisket to make the corned beef? None of our local grocery stores carry beef brisket.
