They are worth optimum points right? Does it matter if one pays with a drug card? Do bonus events like 20x the points count?
Thanks so much. This thread is currently associated with: Pharmaprix, Shoppers Drug Mart

Im pretty sure you need to pay out of pocket for diabetic supplies to get the points. Then submit it to your insurance company. From my understanding anyways!

My health benefits are with Great West Life and I order my insulin, test strips, and pump supplies over the counter - not thru prescription and get 20X points - so I earn about 1.5 million points per year.
I pay for them myself, even though I have a drug card with GWL and I send GWL the written receipt that SDM provides along with my Dr's prescription so that they have the script on file. So I get fully reimbursed - usually I see the cash in my account before he VISA bill (for purchasing the gift cards first of course) comes in.
I've been doing this for several years now. Insulin is one of the only drugs in Canada you do not need a prescription for.
You may not have as much luck with your health care provider though.
Good Luck

So you only give your perscription to the drug company, not to shoppers? And then the regular shoppers receipt is all you need to submit?

yes and yes.
With the new SDM receipt, there is a place where the pharmacist signs it and you put your name on it - I think they print up a special register receipt that states "official receipt" on the top. Previously they used those office supply receipts that provided mulitple copies and the put on their SDM stamp.
However, that is my experience with Great West Life. What co are you using? You may wish to see others' experiences with the co you are using so you are well prepared. good luck

There are other threads on this issue - look at ones I contributed to and note the other diabetics that comment and check back on their comments on other threads.
I hate being a type 1 diabetic, so this is one benefit I really do appreciate. Having an insulin pump (in Ontario fully funded) adds to my SDM purchases so I earn over 1.5 million points per year.
Good luck
