Anyone know what it means when the return status is "in process"?

They likely opened your return but no one has verified it or run it through the program.
Got assessed yesterday so I know I'll be seeing the NOA paper in the mail next week-I checked My Account.

Did you mail in the return ? The old fashioned way by paper & pen ? If so it means, they have received your mailed envelope, but yet to key in the numbers, as they have to be put in manually. So the good thing is that at least your package has arrived at CRA and didn't get lost in mail.

When you NETFILE, the numbers get filled up automatically. No one has to key them in manually. So it shows received almost immediately .

Yours should be deposited March 17 . I know someone, who got assessed today so 1 day after you , and for him, it says March 17 as DD

Most NETFILED returns are being deposited in about 10 days, start to finish.

I NETFILED for someone on April 17 , it was Assessed by CRA on April 18 , in just 1 day !!! , and Direct Deposit and Notice of Assessment is available on April 25

A. By Automated Tele-Phone services

Call the Tax Information Phone Service (TIPS) at 1-800-267-6999. This service is available from mid-February to December 31.

We need proof of identification before we provide this information, so you will have to give us 3 Things :

1. Your Social Insurance Number,

2. Your Month and Year of birth, and

3. Total income amount you entered on line 150 ( Just the dollar amount, no cents )

They might ask for this year's line 150 income or the year before that, so keep both of them handy.


B. By Internet

Use My Account to check the status of your tax refund for the current year. This service is available 7 days a week, 21 hours a day.

If you are not registered to use My Account, you can get immediate access to your refund information using the Quick Access service.




You will get the following status :

Not received
Means that we have not received your return, or it has been received but not entered into our computer system. If you filed your return on or before April 15, it could take four weeks before it shows as received. If you filed your return after April 15, it could take six weeks before it shows as received.

If you filed your return using EFILE, NETFILE, or TELEFILE, shortly after you receive your confirmation number, your return status will show as received. However, the information will not be updated immediately on My Account.

Received
Means that we have received your return, but that it has not yet been assessed.

Assessed
Means that this tax return has been processed by our computer system for the first time, and your Notice of Assessment has been mailed to you.

Reassessed
Means that your return has been changed, and a Notice of Reassessment has been mailed to you

I was just thinking that I have to wait until mid-February to obtain a paper package and do my return.

Do it online with some of the FREE software like Studio Tax etc. Some paid ones are also Free for certain income levels.

The paper package should be available in Jan at various SDM and postal outlets. I don't think they start processing returns till Feb 15 , whether you mail in a paper package or Net File it using a software.

Last year, the paper packages appeared almost around Feb. 12 when CRA was to begin processing returns. I was thinking about doing an online filing but I like seeing the paper form/booklets and keeping aware of changes.

They will have a PDF online too, if you want an early peak at the booklets and forms. Just too expensive to print them though , too much printer ink

You are correct. I don't have a laser printer nor a ink supply fairy parent to keep me printing out pages as long as needed.

I did not see or notice any tax paperwork displays yesterday when I went to my local post office to buy Lunar New Year stamps. Too early. But will check again tomorrow.

I asked a SDM employee who also works in the post office-she said they are coming in today. So this week!
