What happens to a local food bank in the middle of July
More typical clients are Canadian-born families and single men ages 45 to 64.
Often, those men live in rooming houses where cooking facilities are almost as basic as their cooking skills. Crossling said that means providing them with simple but hearty fare packed with nutrients. “Immigrant families are much more likely to know how to stretch out a bag of dried lentils than they are.”
This spring, Share the Warmth held a community kitchen where some of the men who use the food bank learned how to make food go farther, such as adding chickpeas and cilantro to a small amount of ground meat. “We’re going to do it again in the fall. They learn to make healthier, cheaper meals and they get together to chat, so they don’t feel so cut off.”
Short answer : no Long answer : NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Methinks some of us have more in our personal stockpile than what's at this foodbank.

I gave away a lot of my non perishable stash when we went vegetarian but I have some stuff for sure. Especially H&B stuff.

A couple of things:
- There's a post challenging those who have the means to spend $10 on food for your local food bank. Stretch that $10 as far as you can using coupons and sales. Post your results on the thread.
http://forum.smartcanucks.ca/305737-...llenge-canada/
- Found this website for Food Banks Québec http://www.banquesalimentaires.org/204-accueil . (I don't think it's available in English). You can enter your postal code on the right side, and they will show some food banks near you. I entered my postal code, and it did not show the two food banks that are very close to me. I assume it's because they are not part of that network.
- Moisson Montreal (Harvest Montreal) distributes food to smaller local food banks. Here's a list of those food banks organized by region. You may be able to find one close to you on this list: http://www.moissonmontreal.org/pdf_en/Agencies_MM.pdf
Happy donating!
