Details Tornado Warning for: Montréal Island area ISSUED BY ENVIRONMENT CANADA AT 8:57 PM EDT Friday 25 May 2012 Summary At 08:55 PM EDT, radar shows two severe thunderstorms over Montréal and Vaudreuil capable of producing a tornado. The thunderstorms are tracking eastward at 80 km/h. Damages that seem to suggest the passage of a tornado have been reported in st-benoit-of-Mirabel. Gusts of 100 km/h or more, and possibly hail of 2 cm or more and frequent lightning, are associated with this complex of thunderstorms. People in these regions should take the required precautions and listen for subsequent weather warnings. This warning is in effect from 08:55 PM to 09:55 PM EDT. Details A low pressure system east of James Bay is moving northeastward and will reach far Northern Quebec tomorrow morning. As it passes, high westerly winds will affect Waskaganish until tonight. A vigorous cold front associated with this system is currently sweeping across western and Central Quebec and is generating a line of thunderstorms. These thunderstorms could be severe and generate strong wind gusts, brief but intense showers, hail and frequent lightning. Such severe thunderstorms could also produce a tornado.
