My friend is babysitting a child before and after school. my friend eats meals at the BS house. she also stays late if the mom is late. BTW she is a single mom. What should my friend be getting to babysit 20 days in a month? She also babysits all summer long.

What should she be getting mor the month for before and after school and then what should she get for the summer.

it actually depends on the going rate in her area.
In my area I know the going rate is usually $30 per day and up,
before school, after school and lunch together is $15 per day and any hr. after that is $5
but keep in mind how many hrs. before and after school

It would be a nanny rate if she is at the child's home and eating their food. I hope I understood that??

Here, the going rate for before and after school care is $15/day. This will obviously vary if the sitter goes to the child's home... The rate for full time child care is $25/day, but again, it depends on where you live.

Personally, I would not hire a sitter for $10/hr... I know that's minimum wage, but if I'm going to work for 8hrs, and you're babysitting my child for 9hrs (1/2 hr before and after), I'm not spending $90/day and not making any money! I'd have to be making $30-40/hr in order to actually make it worth working...IMHO...

The drop-in day care (home based) that I use only charges me $5 an hour for up to 6 hours, $40 a day for 6-10 hours... and that is for a toddler, not toilet trained. Her daily price is lower once potty trained, I think $35. She charges $20 per day for before and after school care.

Thats fair, and when I babysit it's usually in the evening so mom and dad can have a nice night out or whatnot. I work during the day, so if I'm giving up my evening I need it to be worthwhile for me too! But if you're bringing a sitter into your house for the day, they need to be making a fair wage also. Otherwise a group daycare is probably a better way to go.

I agree with Nadia. I'm not sure about before & after school care but in my area the going rate for a home daycare (8 hour day) is 25-30/day.

$10-$15 for before & after school is the going rate here, $40/day. However for me that's at the babysitters house, not with me providing food.
