Merritton festival organizers have dropped a bombshell.
This long weekend’s Lions Club Community Days features fireworks for the first time.
And they might even outdazzle Port Dalhousie’s Canada Day spectacle.
That’s the word from Mike Coakley, fireworks coordinator for the Labour Day long weekend bash at Merritton Community Park.
“You can expect a show that will match or surpass what what happens at Lakeside Park, I can guarantee that,” Coakley said. “I was personally at the previous Port performance,” he said, with a mischievous chuckle.
“And when I asked the fireworks person if can we have one that’s as large, if not larger than Lakeside Park, he assured me that would be the fact.
“The whole goal is to have this special parade, with labour, and a food drive for the community,” Coakley added. “That’s how we’re trying to rival with the Lions’ (Canada Day holiday) event in Port Dalhousie."
Community Days runs from Friday to Monday and includes festival rides and activities, a beer garden, live music and chances to win prizes.
The fireworks take place inside the park Sunday at 9:30 p.m.
Monday’s 65th annual parade is Canada's oldest continually running labour day parade. It begins at 11 a.m. Monday at both Kernahan Park Secondary School and the CAW Hall on Bunting Rd.

Since we get asked regularly 'how do you rep?', here's how.

Lucky you. My oldest starts Grade 1 on Tuesday, and the middle child starts JK the following week. Guess I have a ways to go till they get to that point.
