That was a different Black Friday. The name was used again for several market crashes, for example the 1929 crash was known as Black Friday in Europe but Black Thursday here. The reason the day after Thanksgiving is called Black Friday is wishful thinking - the start of the Christmas shopping season and black ink for the retailers. Originally Posted by virrys
