When I order in, I try to tip the same way I would in a restaurant. As for the delivery charge, this is not paid to the driver for delivering it. The restaurant you order from, in this case Pizza Pizza, is usually charged $2 - $3 by the company you placed your order with. Nowadays, if you call Pizza Pizza, Swiss Chalet and such, you're not reaching a call center owned by them, you're reaching someone working from home taking calls on their computer, and the restaurant has to pay for this service. Most companies that charge for delivery do so because they use an outsourcing company.

What do the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Titanic have in common?

They both look good until they hit the ice.

    ^^^^^^^

The delivery charge, of course, is why I prefer walk-in specials and pick-ups. Also, if there's a problem with the order (forgot the drinks, no dipping sauce or what have you) it can be rectified BEFORE the pizza arrives at my apartment.

I never pay delivery or tips for pizza as I am lucky enough to have Pizza Pizza, Mamma's, Pizzaville, Pizza Nova and Pizza Hut all within walking distance.

With all the taxes and delivery charge etc. if he gave him $25 even, that should be good enough really. It may not be 15% exactly but that's the way it goes sometime. Of course everyone always wants more but maybe your son just didn't have it!

Oh, I should also mention that I rarely do the takeout / delivery pizza thing. Whenever they're on sale, I stock up on those two-packs of Delissio frozen pizzas.

No need to tip. They get paid plenty.

Perhaps you would change your mind if you heard some of the horror stories I have heard about what often happens to a pizza en route from the pizza store to the front door of those who have a reputation for very low or non-tipping.

Couldn't that be said for restaurants as well?

I used to work for a wholesaler in the food industry (perishable). One of the drivers once asked me what my favourite restaurant was. I told him "no way, I like going there and I don't want to know what happens in the kitchen".

Anyone else having issues logging on?

Yes indeed! It very much does apply to restaurants as well. And it certainly does put the customer between a rock and a hard spot.
