In defence of Electric Viking:

I can understand why some of you were offended or at least taken aback at EV's post, but please accept it in context. I had just made one of my bogus UK Winning Word explanations, in this case of the word "Collaboration". My explanation was that there was a connection to the Vichy France regime, which was the puppet government the Nazis set up to administer occupied France. Those who blindly went along with the Vichy administration were known as "collaboraters". EV's post was a sarcastic reaction to my bogus clue explanation. No political or social motive was intended, I am sure. I must say that the post at least showed that EV has enough awareness of history to have understood my cryptic clue.

For my part in this, if anyone was offended by the Vichy remark, I apologize.

Well, well, looks like I stirred some emotions with my comment. Let me explain it.

If you read the post that I commented on, you will see thast the poster made reference to the Vichy Collaboration. If you check the history books, the French in Vichy collaborated with the Nazis during WWII, therefore they were supporting Hitler and that's why I made that comment.
