Here are this years nominees for Best Picture. How many have you seen? Which do you believe deserves the nod?

    Avatar
    The Hurt Locker
    District 9
    Up
    The Blind Side
    Up in the Air
    A Serious Man
    An Education
Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire
    Inglourious Basterds

I'm actually surprised to say that I've seen half of them. Normally, I'm racing to see them before Oscar Night.

District 9 was probably one of the most original and realistic sci-fi movies I've seen in years.

Up had me crying ten minutes in.

Avatar was visualy incredible, but the story was weak.

I found The Hurt Locker very similar to Full Metal Jacket.

My pick, though, for Best Picture is Inglourious Basterds. The final line says it all: "This just might be my masterpiece".
What do the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Titanic have in common?

They both look good until they hit the ice.

    > Avatar - Amazing saw in 3D, does this give it an edge to win?

    >The Hurt Locker - Not Bad if you like the Afgan stuggle, another story on what's going on over there, worth seeing.

    >District 9 - What a piece of crap. I was truly disappointed with this show.

    >Up - Great show, what more could I say, Squirrel!! I already have it in my Blue-ray collection.

    >The Blind Side - I did not see this one.

    >Up in the Air - This was not bad, starred Goerge Clooney who wnet around firing everyone.

    >A Serious Man - I did not see this one.

    >An Education - I did not see this one.

    >Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire - I did not see this one.

    >Inglourious Basterds - This has my vote, what can you say, if you were looking for fun, stupidty, explosions, killing Nazi's - Typical Tarantino, sort of reminded me of Kill Bill. I really loved how they spoke EYEtalian. Heck I already have it in my Blue-ray collection.

I KNOW. I was waiting for my 6-year old to ask me to explain what was happening.

I've only seen The Hurt Locker and District 9.

The Hurt Locker was pretty intense, especially at the end.

    I didn't find District 9 very good.

I'll bet Avatar will win, there's been so much hype about it.

oh.. and Happy Ground hog day.. not so great news though..
WIARTON, ONT-A mix of cheers and groans arose from a crowd gathered in this community as Canada's best-known weather prognosticating groundhog solidified a unanimous prediction among three famous furry forecasters - six more weeks of winter.

I have to agree with you on District 9. I couldn't watch the entire thing, I got bored. Normally i love movies like that, but I was expecting a lot more.

    "SQUIRREL" !!

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the groundhogs. I've come to expect snow every April. It might be just a flurry and if might come at the beginning or the end but there will be April Snow, plain and simple.

District 9 was a fresh take on an old story. Aliens come, presumable to invade (although their purpose was never really explained), run out of gas, end up getting treated as we treat our lower than lower-class own. Most of the people I know who saw it and didn't enjoy it said they were expecting something more along the lines of Independance Day, not a morality tale.

As I said, I thought it was the most realistic sci-fi movies I've ever seen. If man were ever visited by a more inteligent race, man's first demand would be "What's in it for us?"

This reminds me of the episode of Friends where the gang was sitting around watching Old Yeller, and Phoebe lost it when she saw the ending. (her mother had always shut off the TV before the ending, she had no idea that Old Yeller got shot)

    Don't be Phoebe's mom!

I don't have a blu-ray player yet (looking at a PS3 with this year's tax return), but I opted to buy the blu-ray of this over the DVD. It was only $5 more, and it came with a DVD copy in addition to the blu-ray.
