OK, I'm super jealous but still very excited for Shaman's big win. Like everyone has said, finally someone from the group won. The consolation is I still get to see Eric & Jeff on the 21st as I did get tix for that show.

Why District 9 was such a failure.

The plot, aliens arrive at earth, Johannesburg and their space craft becomes disabled. I don't know about you, but you travel, lets say 7.5 light years for what reason probably to invade and concur earth. I'm sure if you travel that far you would have backup parts somewhere for everything. Not like you can search the web and order something. Miltary tactics always has a leading force attacking with secondary waves following once a beachhead is established. These aliens had nothing, no backup plan.


Yadda-yadda-yadda...

I don't think this was an "invasion" force. I was left with the impression that they were migrating. Their own world was dead, they were looking for somewhere else to live. I don't think they had a backup plan, and their resources were all but depleted getting as far as they travelled.

I tried to watch D9 on my 14-hr plane ride back from Dubai, and it didn't make the cut. I've been a sci-fi fan for over 40 years & love Peter Jackson's stuff, but this just was boring. I think I ended up watching Star Trek for the 6th time, then a great film called The #1 Ladies' Detective Agency which I found out later was the pilot for a BBC series.

Up in the Air was good, not great by any means. Standard Clooney, one theme throughout and the plot had some serious holes in it. Doesn't deserve the nomination IMHO. I don't see how Avatar can be criticized for the simple plot and then have Up in the Air get such praise.

Probably becaue people can relate to Up in the Air and not to Avatar. I have to see Avatar but when was the last time your consciousness was transferred into another body? OOOOhhh I know I going to pay for that question

They were migrating because their planet was dying although they said they would be back. Makes me think they were a reconnaissance crew.

The piece that came off was a shuttle craft and the aliens knew where it was but just didn't have the fuel to operate it.
