While only 3,500 tigers still roam the wild, Americans now own a staggering 10,000 of them. The heart of captive tiger country is Texas, where some 5,000 big cats live in backyards, cages and, gulp!, open ranches -- no permits required. For all their majesty, tigers sell for a song: A young cub in good health can be had for the cost of a purebred dog, about $1,000, though "the meat bill is big," says Christopher Cutter, spokesman for the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). That's why tiger owners often cut deals on road kill with highway patrol. Then there's tiger insurance, for which Tyson has been known to pay $1,100 a month.
More inconceivably, they let the animals breed. Last year New Jersey authorities called in the IFAW to help confiscate 24 tigers from a woman raising them in a suburban home. The great cats lived in a mishmash of shipping containers, industrial fencing and plywood behind the house.

Hi everyone, and thanks to all for the overnight words, etc.....glad the MV attendees had a good night....however, it's one of those venues where the lack of seats is an issue for me, I just don't stand long enough to make anything enjoyable any more, had to make it it a "pass".....
....good to see a few members met up, it's always nice to have a face to put to the names that are so familiar....
.....sad to see there are still some unhappy people on here still.....hang on a sec, here's my magic wand.....am waving it madly over all of those who need some magic fairy dust over them, cos I just don't get how anyone can join a list like this and manage to get into scraps with others..
.....to those who take offense at the least little thing (it seems) ....are you like that with your family and friends?.....or have you no friends left, and are looking for more victims?....surely you can find a debating group of some sort, cos clearly that is where you shine, and others who are ready for that sort of thing will appreciate your points of view....Yahoo has a TON of these, go check them out......
.....geeze, would you listen to me go on here??!?.....all this tension is bringing out the "mom" AND the Scottish in me...aaarghh!!!!...not always a good combo....going back a few years, when my boys abused the privilege of playing with a particular toy, I took it away from them, and I sure wish I could take some members' computers from them......this was a delightful place to start my day not so long ago, and I want us to get back to that....RIGHT NOW!!!.....there are PM's available to keep your vitriolic comments aimed at the right people, with no spillover to those WHO DON'T CARE!!!!.....GET A GRIP!!!!....the selfishness and the "It's all about me" rubbish HAS to stop..... there's enough crap going on with this poor old planet, without discovering it has made it's way into your home via the computer.. on this gorgeous Sunday, we should, at the very least, be looking out the window and appreciating the beauty that is out there.....allow it to flood into your soul and light up your day...try it, it's an amazing feeling!!!!...
.......OK, off my soapbox now, my rant is done, and let me leave you with a Q-related thought...the Beatles got it right.....all you need is love.....TR
