While I'm not sure I can do as well as Raymond did on the radio, I'd like to give a review of last night's Clapton / Beck concert at the ACC.
Jeff Beck started close to 7:30 as advertised, and just like the London show, there was no fanfare or announcement. He just walked out on stage and started to play. His band consisted of a drummer, keyboardist, bassist and a 12 piece string orchestra. I've never been a close follower of Jeff Beck, having just one of his older albums in my collection, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. It's fair to say that I am now a Jeff Beck fan! How he plays so fast and accurately without a pick is quite amazing. Someone sitting near by made a comment that "he didn't sing". Well, duh! Why would he need to use his voice when he can make a Fender Stratocaster sing like that?I have to say that his playing is every bit as musical and melodic as David Gilmour's, and anyone who knows me knows that such high praise is not easily handed out,as I am a Gilmour fanatic. Anyways, he played a total of 12 songs, starting with an intro of a few bars of Oh Canada which got everyone on their feet, then moving straight into Eternity's Breath. Wow, what an opening, which was followed by a full set of solid tunes! His bassist, Rhonda Smith even did a short solo which was also spectacular. Overall, I'd rate his performance an A.
After a 30 minute break, it was Eric Clapton's turn. This is someone whose work I know well. I have most of his music in my collection and this is my fourth time seeing him live. He has yet to disappoint. I was delighted when he started the set with an acoustic guitar backed by a drummer and bassist. I think his true talent lies in his Blues work on the acoustic. He opened with Driftin', followed up by Layla, Runnin' on Faith and I've Got a Rock and Roll Heart. Then the rest of his band came out (2 keyboardists and two singers) and his guitar tech handed him his Strat. The Blues theme continued with Tell the Truth and Key to the Highway. As always, he starts one of his popular tracks with a unique and different opening that challenges the fan to pick out the chord progression. Last night, it was "I Shot the Sheriff", and it seemed to me that few people picked up on it before the familiar chord lines started (but I did). This one included his best solo of the night, and he got the joint jumpin' with it.
His set closed with Cocaine, where he let both keyboardists take over with a couple of great solos. Clapton's performance was an A-.
Jeff Beck then joined him on stage for the highlight set of the night. No doubt, Beck is the best player of the two today, but Clapton still held his own through 8 tracks, the last being Crossroads in a one track encore. This last set was a definite A+, and a great way to wrap up a show.
I would rate this show among my top 5 of all time. The crowd was into it and the sound in the ACC was excellent. I don't need a setlist full of songs that everyone knows from the radio, and I enjoyed the songs that I hadn't heard before. My only complaint had nothing to do with the show, just the venue, and that was the wildly fluctuating temperatures. It seemed like they were turning off the air conditioning when the music was on, and then firing up the air handlers to the point where it was quickly getting frigid. My poor wife, who's going through her own personal summer these days, was darn near passing out when the temps got higher. She even threatened to "flash" the band at one point!
Oh, I almost forgot, I managed to spot Robyn in the audience during the break! I tried waving her way but it's pretty hard to see that in a crowd of 15,000 folks!
And the best part of the night, I got to see an excellent concert instead of a depressing hockey game.A truly wise man never plays leapfrog with a unicorn.

I had tried this, but I still got the following:

I was already logged in(?!).
So, I went ahead with this and I received a new password.
After using it to get back in, I changed my password back to the one I normally use. Same thing happened with my Wife.
I looked over my Profile and noticed that my cell # was not there.
They did something similar with the last Cash Grab, if I remember correctly. You had to update your profile.
Anyway, it works fine now (with my usual password).
