When I was a kid, absolutely this was the way to go. But now, you might want to reconsider.

If you know the parents, or I should say know of them - as in "Boo & Sally Smith, nice folks; shame about the boy" - this might be OK.

If you have no knowledge of them, you may want to consider having the local police liaision with you if you decide to speak to them directly.

This thing has to be nipped in the butt so to speak. Big difference of a little boy pulling a girls pony tail vs poking her with a pin. The longer he gets away with it, he'll think its acceptable behavior.
If the teacher addressed it right there and then and spoke to him right infront of the class, I'm sure he'd stop cold turkey!

    Regarding bullying in schools.

Parents need to be dilligent & push. A parent who is dealing with this, needs to put everything in writing. This is crutial. Send copies to the principal and to the Board. Of course keep copies & conduct yourself with dignity, afterall it is your child's well being you are protecting. Never let it slip. A principal may not be happy to see you, but only you as a parent can prevent these kind of issues from falling through the cracks.
No parent wants to see their children experience anxiety & depression because of they are being harrassed.
I can remember sitting in the office of a principal over that very issue and I made it clear that I was there in the name of justice. If only accountability was a mandatory thing.

Please do not follow this bully home. Jim is right! You have no idea what his home life is like, or what else he is capable of. He and his family could turn around and file charges against you.
I am unsure how many times you have left messages for the principal. One message should have been sufficient. This is about your child, not the principal's. Take the bull (no pun) by the horns. Call the police. They will help you. No reason to wait any longer.
Your daughter needs to be able to close this chapter and understand what has transpired and she needs to be assured that it isn't her fault. She can then begin her journey forward with your support.
